If you aren't yet familiar with Mare Corelli, this is a wonderful book to introduce her. She is known for her Life Everlasting and other books on reincarnation and the supernatural in religion. This book, however, is about finding real friendship and love. A rich old man looks back on his life and realizes he has never been loved for himself. Posing as a poor man, he decides to go on a quest for a true friend. This book is full of beauty, passion, the heights and depths of human experience. Her descriptions of nature as usual are thrilling to me as I am a nature lover.
