There's a button underneath the right side of the tv...press it and a screen appears. Just move the button towards the off position...facing the tv would mean you move the button towards you

The instruction book states. Using the TV's Controller (Panel Key). The TV's Controller, is a small joy stick like button on the bottom right side of the TV, lets you control the TV without the remote control. There are to many instructions on using the controller to list here. Perhaps you can go on Samsung's website and download a copy of the manual if you don't have one. This should at least let you know that it is possible and where to look for the controller.

Remote should not quit working unless you need new batteries in remote. Always keep batteries on hand to prevent problems. Use the knob under the screen which controls on and off power if batteries are not available.
