Touch 5 for $300 or Kindle Fire HD for $200? I'm stressing over which of the 2 devices to get. I love my old iPod Touches but confine my use of them mostly to listening to music with my earbuds (the screen is too small for movies, novels, serious texting and composing). ALSO:
You have to pay $100 more for a Gen 5 than a Gen 4 and in exchange get more storage (but who needs it with the free iCloud?) and a longer iPod Touch than Gen 4 version (in terms of physical dimensions). Finally, I suspect the Touch 5 will have the same limited, tinny sounding speakers (not real important if you use high-quality earphones).
The new Kindle Fire HD, on the other hand, is the same price as the entry-level Gen 4 Touch--$199--and it comes with vastly improved stereo speakers and a screen that's 3" larger (almost twice the size of either Touch). I have yet to be able to watch a whole movie on an iPod, and I doubt that the addition of 1/2" to to the size of the screen (4" instead of the Gen. 4 Touch's 3 and 1/2") will make much difference.
I'cw ordered a Touch 5, but I'm still 2nd-guessing the purchase. The only thing that's preventing me from ordering the Fire HD instead is that the average rating it's received from reviewers is 3 1/2 stars. If a device with its advertised features and considerably lower price than the Touch 5 can't average 4 or more stars, there may be something seriously wrong with it.
Any thoughts concerning these 2 items? Touch 5? Or get a real tablet device while saving yourself a hundred?
I canceled my pre-order on the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and decided to get the newest iPod touch 32GB. You can't really compare a tablet to a smart MP3 player. Each has strengths and weaknesses as far as portability, capability, and performance. When it came to choosing between the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and the 5th gen iPod touch, I picked the iPod because of its software, portability, picture taking/video recording capability, and it's capability. The only reason I considered the Fire HD was because of its large screen size, which would come in handy for video watching and internet browsing.
I don't see how people say Apple is dying with Steve Jobs. The iPhone 5 and 5th gen iPod touch are the best device in their history, and they were born after Steve Jobs passed away.
