uni-ball Jetstream Pens

Writes as fast as you think

The unique hybrid ink of the Jetstream series of pens from uni-ball offers the smoothness of a gel with the quick-drying properties of a ballpoint. Ideal for left-handers because the ink dries so fast, there's little chance of smudging. Jetstream ink reduces writing friction by 40% compared to a standard ballpoint. A highly lubricating solvent gives it an ultra-low viscosity - so theres finally a pen that writes as fast as you think. Jetstream pens feature a retractable tip, embossed grip, and stainless steel accents.

  • Unparalleled smoothness and crisp, vivid lines
  • Quick-drying ink prevents smears, recommended for lefties
  • uni Super ink bonds with paper for document security
  • Embossed grip for improved control
  • Stylish stainless steel accents

Featuring uni Super Ink

Like all uni-ball pens with uni Super Ink, these pens feature an advanced ink formula that contains a pigment that bonds to paper fibers. Resistant to chemicals that wash dye-based inks from checks, it helps secure your documents. uni Super Ink is archival-quality ink that's acid-free, and resists water and fading.

Designed with Purpose

Crisp, vivid lines that dry 40% faster than regular ballpoint pens.

Distinctive Look

Sleek styling thanks to stainless steel accents.

Cushioned Grip for Increased Control

**************************UPDATE 03/21/11**********************************

SANFORD HAS CHANGED THE CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS OF THE PEN - IT NOW SUCKS!

Every new batch that I have received is of inferior quality to that of the pens that I had based my original review on.

After contacting Sanford about the issue, and receiving the same crappy pen as a replacement, I felt that I should edit my review.

Very disappointed. These WERE my favorite pen. Not anymore.

I would now give this pen a single star***************************************************

*******************************ORIGINAL REVIEW*********************************************************

I received this pen free from Uni-Ball as part of a giveaway about 4 months ago.

It is, without a doubt, the best pen that I have ever owned. I just placed an order for more of the Fine Point. I tried the 1.0 Bold Point at Staples today and I did not care for them. The 0.7 fine point on the other hand are like heaven in a stick!

My penmanship has always been awful. I would go so far as to say that my penmanship HAS IMPROVED simply because these pens flow so smoothly that they are an absolute pleasure to write with.

We have all had the experience of searching for the perfect pen, only to find disappointment. We wander through the wastes of pen mediocrity searching for the promised land of the perfect pen. If you understand what I'm saying you will know how valuable it is when you find the right pen. I thought I had found the promised land with this pen. It wrote with dark, flowing lines. The ink dried fast so it rarely smudged and didn't bleed through the page. Unfortunately, this promised land was merely a counterfeit. It was an oasis that lasted only a fleeting moment. An oasis that dried up and left me alone to return to my endless wandering through the wastes of pen mediocrity.

The ink delivery for my latest batch of Uniball Jetstream pens is now excessive. I get blobby pools of ink that take up to a minute to dry. These are obviously prone to accidental smudging and page bleed through. The pen tip itself accumulates a large blob of ink that I occasionally have to wipe off in one corner of the page. This pen no longer has any benefit over using that ink-hose of a pen, the G2. Sadly, it may be worse.

Typically I wouldn't bother to write a review over something as seemingly trivial as a pen. But, the original Jetstream was just so good, I want it back! I am unable to find a replacement. I'm hoping that a representative of Uniball will see this, fix the problem and give us back the wonderful pen we originally had. Until then, I am returning to my search in the wastes of pen mediocrity. One day we will all find the promised land of the perfect pen, perhaps Uniball will again deliver us by fixing the Jetstream.

PS Uniball, if you fix it I would suggest that this time you inscribe the secret on platinum plates and keep them in a deep, geologically stable cave.

I received one of the uni-ball Jetstream pens free in the mail. This pen is one of those rare perfect pens you come across. It writes smoothly. The ink flows evenly and doesn't collect on the pen tip leaving blotches behind. The pen barrel, while large, fits comfortably in your hand. I liked the freebie so much, I bought a 3-pack so I could carry one with me, have one in the kitchen, and keep one at my desk. Its my absolute favorite pen.

Search the Internet for "the best ballpoint pen" and you will learn a few things very quickly: first, you'll learn that "ballpoint" is a specific subset of pens that incorporate a ball in their tip and that there are throngs of people eager to explain all of the differences to you. Second, you'll learn that the uni-ball Jetstream is widely lauded to be one of the best rolling ball pens in existence, which is why I ordered this pack in the first place.

Am I a pen expert? Not by a long shot. Do I appreciate a high quality writing instrument? Absolutely. Among my favorite writing implements are the venerable Pilot Precise V5 (or V7), and of course the ubiquitous workhorses, the BIC Cristal Stic and BIC mechanical pencil.

So you're wondering now if I have any idea what I'm talking about. I do. I have owned Koh-I-Noor and Rotring mechanical pencils and pens across the range, from consumer to technical grade (Rapidoliners, Rapidographs, you name it), I had a robust consumer fountain pen phase that saw me experimenting with the classic Parker fountains and the more eclectic Rotring ArtPens. I've written and drawn with graphite of all softness grades, Dixon Ticonderogas, ballpoints, rollerballs, gel rollers, Prismacolor markers, charcoal, chalk, dry erase, the Fisher Space Pen... I'm slightly obsessed with pens and pencils.

The uni-ball Jetstream RT Fine Point Retractable is a five-star pen. It writes smoothly and evenly, the ink doesn't pool or bleed, it dries quickly and doesn't smudge, and the grip feels just right. For the price, these are definitely worth a shot. They make a few thicknesses in both standard capped and retractable models, so you can choose the combination that works for you. I personally feel that 0.5mm is just right, but of course that's a personal preference more than anything else.
