Update for the new add-in levels for Forgotten Shores added 11-22-2014:

I have just purchased the new update called Forgotten Shores. It requires an in-app purchase price of $1.99. It contains 8 new levels to the game and they are well worth the price. The artwork is beautiful and the puzzles are challenging. I enjoyed playing them all. The last level Nocturne is particularly challenging but fun. Overall it took me about 90 minutes to beat the new levels and I spent most of the time on the 8th level.

This app is like a piece of art turned into a game. Beautiful artwork, special effects and music. I like this app a lot and I recommend it to you. Here are the titles for the new levels:

The Chasm
Serpent Lake
The Thief
Halcyon Court
The Lost Falls
The Citadel of Deceit
The Oubliette

Update 11-19-2014:

I just wanted to state that this game for me is so challenging and fun that I actually reinstalled it over a month ago and played it completely through a couple more times. My grandson who is 11 years old saw me playing it and he took the tablet from me and he was better than I was at playing the game. He also quickly finished it.

This game has marvelous graphics and the thought and design effort put into the development of this app is just amazing. I recommend it to you as a lot of fun. I enjoy it!

This is a very unique game that forces you to think in three dimensions and use your spatial skills in resolving three dimensional shapes and forms. The graphics and music of the game are professionally done and the game held my interests so much that I could not stop playing it. The time just flew by!

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique isometric adventure game May 26, 2014
Verified Purchase
The app developer calls Monument Valley an "isometric adventure game." Whatever it is, it's like nothing I've ever seen before. At first it reminded me of Mobigame's "Edge," but once into the game, it's very different, and it's definitely one of the most original video games that I've seen. In the game, you lead the character named Princess Ida through mazes of Escher-esque structures that would be impossible to create in the real world. In these structures, there are bridges to be made, panels that move, hidden paths, or other elements that you manipulate to get the princess to the structure's exit.

The structures get progressively bigger and more challenging to negotiate. There's no time limit, so you can play at your own pace, which I really appreciate. At first, you're not hampered by anything except the difficulty of finding the correct path, but eventually, crows on the structure block your way unless you can figure how to go around them or take them out of play. I don't know how many structures there are, but I'm on the 6th structure now. In the game, Princess Ida is on some kind of quest that isn't explained at the beginning, but I assume that all will be revealed at the end.

Put on your thinking cap, because "Monument Valley" will test your logic and problem-solving abilities like no other game that I've seen. It's a beautifully done game that's a lot of fun to play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunningly Gorgeous Fun with Escher Perspectives November 13, 2014
Verified Purchase
-UPDATE 19November2014: Hah, go figure... classic example of a purchase ending up as a Free App of the Day. Still, GRAB THIS GAME!! I don't mind my earlier purchase at all and warmly recommend it to everyone of all ages.

-- Original
I had purchased this some time ago on the recommendation of other regular app reviewers, and today I finally opened up MOMUMENT VALLEY for the first time... and was BLOWN AWAY! This is a prime example of an Indie Game just getting it bang-on. Play with Escher perspectives, walking upside down, discovering twists and turns while you rotate and slide bits of the setting around, all the while very pleasant and interactive sound effects add to the actual environment. A bit of a background story going on, and an added ability to screenshot your gameplay to share with others, all this just makes a stunningly gorgeous game.

No Permissions or Code concerns, and runs OFFLINE. The graphics and music are exquisite, gameplay intriguing and delightful with new perspective discoveries... a masterpiece indeed.

Now, yes, it's short on overall content with only nine levels of real content (technically 10 chapters, but the first chapter is a brief 30 second tutorial, so I don't count that), and the game is on the expensive side, yet if you are like me, and don't mind throwing down the money or using Amazon Appstore coins for just a delightful experience, then MOMUMENT VALLEY has my warmest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, Satisfying "Cozy Armchair" Surreal Puzzler November 19, 2014
Verified Purchase
I purchased this game earlier in 2014, and have been recommending it to everyone ever since. Apparently I forgot to review it.

This is a beautiful, surreal puzzler, well worth the asking price! It is unusual to find a game that is so well designed. The graphics and sound effects are terrific, and the ambient soundtrack is soothing yet mysterious.

As others have pointed out, if you are familiar with MC ESCHER then you have an idea of what the mechanics are already. There is no failing, no dying, no penalty other than the inability to proceed without solving a level.

Like many successful games, there is indeed a storyline here, which is only given to you in pieces. World of Goo, MYST, and Machinarium are similar in many ways.

Monument Valley is a short game, which usually translate into a reduced value, but here, it doesn't. There also isn't much replay value EXCEPT that this is a game you'll want to return to for a relaxing yet engaging hour or so every few months.

There are no problems with permissions, but it does have Flurry; normally (as in almost always) I dock a star for Flurry and other similar spyware, but in this case the game earned that star back fully.

BOTTOM LINE: Get it. Even at full asking price it is worth it.

I found this in another forum and it worked for me. Unmount your SD card in settings temporarily and reinstall the game then remount your SD card.

Unmount your SD card, then try to install Monument Valley. I've had the same issue with my tab 4 and it worked. Hope that helps!
