Book Description

October 1, 1998
Home Gardening has become increasingly popular with inflation and likely scarcity of produce in the marketplace. Here is a book to increase the success of growing plants at home.

As more and more families lay in emergency foods, a can of vegetable seeds is usually included in the emergency stores. This book is designed to make sure that the seeds you plant have a better chance of growing and producing food. Under any conditions, you cannot afford to plant seeds and have nothing come of the time and effort. Take the experience and knowledge of a Master Gardener with you to your garden. The experience extends to your table as each vegetable s preparation for the eating is described.

For each vegetable, you will know: Latin, common, and foreign names, seed viability, perennial/annual, seed planting depth, germination time, Soil temperature, and soil pH. Additional information is provided on transplanting, fertilizers, composting, watering, The plants especially suitable for greenhouse or hydroponic culture are also included.

This is a book every home gardener needs.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Where do they thrive and who grows tham?

Where can the seeds be obtained? Or even a seed catalog?

What about aliases? From one part of the country to another, names change for the same plant.

What if you immigrate from a foreign land? What are the names you might use to identify foods that you and your family are used to? Maybe you are into cooking exotic dishes. What goes into them?

Maybe you just want to add more variety to your menu.

We haven't mentioned growing them.

--Some seeds need warmth.

--Some seeds need moisture.

--Some need darkness.

--Some need soaking.

They all need a soil that will give up nutrients to plants.

These are the elements for *successful* growing from seed. This part of the book is really about gardening.

Most emergency packs, for use after a disaster, contain seeds for growintg food. In this case, your *success* with them may be important to your survival. You want them all to sprout and grow. You cannot afford to lose a crop if you didn't do it right. You may only get one chance a year.

You probably won't get all the information you need on the back of a seed packet.

Have you ever considered saving one plant from the harvest to produce seed for next year?

After you have the vegetables, how are they prepared? What parts serve as food? There is a whole list of questions about what is edible.

Here is a book that tells the whole story.

The book is also available as a CD edition, in Adobe, PDF format, and it is included in the five-book *Incredible Edibles Library* CD. Both of these electronic editions are linked by what we call an Auto-Index. They are also searchable by word or phrase.
