Product Description

Our Kelly Kettles have become popular for a variety of reasons with different groups of outdoor enthusiasts. * Camping: If you are camping and just want a convenient quick way to heat up your water for hydrating food, a cup of coffee or for personal use, the Base Camp Large Kelly Kettle is great. It will deliver about 7 cups of hot water in just a few minutes. Your camping gear will not be complete without a Kelly Kettle. * Back Packing and Hiking: Backpackers and hikers love the Kelly Kettle for its light weight and natural fuel burning ability. Never worry about carrying heavy fuel in your backpack again. You will never go on a backpacking trip again without your Kelly Kettle. * Kayaking: Kayaking is another outdoor sport where you don''t want to have to carry any more than necessary. The Kelly Kettle is ideal because of its light weight, use of natural fuel and how fast it will boil water when you are exhausted from kayaking all day. * Scouts: Scouting is a terrific youth activity and what better way to teach scouts how to camp, cook and purify water than to teach them how to use the Kelly Kettle. * Emergency Preparedness and Survival Use: The Kelly Kettles are an essential element of any emergency preparedness plan since in an emergency or disaster situation the most important part of survival is being able to obtain pure water. Without access to other types of fuel such as gas or propane, it may be difficult to get pure water. Since the Kelly Kettle uses only natural fuels, in a disaster you most likely will still have access to ample natural fuel in order to boil and purify water for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene. * Fishing and Hunting: The Kelly Kettle was created to quickly produce hot water for coffee and other hot drinks while fishing on the beautiful lakes of Ireland. The same is still true today. Your Kelly Kettle will serve you for many years to come.

It's compact, efficient, and well made.

It uses pretty much anything flammable to burn inside it, such as sticks and pine cones.

The first time I tried to use this I wondered why I got it. After the fourth time I wondered why I hadn't gotten one years ago. I really like the way it boils the water. Be sure to fill to a half an inch or so below the bottom of the spout other wise it will boil over. The little grate for the base turns it into a good hobo stove. The fins that you put on top I am not too crazy about.

I bought this item after I read about it in a expedition related blog. I thought the design is great but suspected the item might be too clunky and made of too many parts to be practical for hiking and camping. I was wrong! The item does take a little bit of space but it is light and easy to carry strapped for the outside of your backpack. It is sturdy, well manufactured and can take a reasonable beating tossing your bag around. Water does boil in 5mins! This is the fastest and cleanest way to boil water without carrying propane with you. Highly recommended!

***Update 09/17/2012***
I just got back from a 3 day camping trip to Western MA and left my old butane/propane campstove behind. The Kelly Kettle once again proved it's usefulness and performed like a champ. Boiled water in a snap for coffee and cooked burgers for 2 to perfection. I love this device. I was once again impressed with how quickly it heats up and how little fuel is required to do the job. I was also happy to not need to bring along fuel canisters. Check out the Kelly website for novel "hacks" that people have come up with like using a couple of charcoal briquettes for sustained warming and simmering. I reiterate my claim that every oudoorsperson needs one of these in their kits.

I took my Kelly Kettle on a camping trip in RI over the Memorial Day weekend and I was amazed by it's performance. These things have been around for decades and I only recently discovered them (Thank you Amazon 'suggestions for you'). I was able to boil water for coffee, cook up some eggs and bacon for breakfast, fry up 3 large burgers for lunch, and grill hot dogs and burgers for dinner. The only fuel required is what you can find in your natural surroundings - twigs, bark, dried grass (they even say it burns dried camel dung, but I'll take their word.) This thing is incredibly efficient - it draws air in from the hole in the base and creates a draft that continually feeds the fire. It gets HOT! It boils ~40 oz of water in about 3 minutes. The Kit that comes with it is great - aluminum pot, pan, fire grate, potholder, and potstand. I was able to use the fire base to do most of my cooking - obviously because of it's size, you'll have to do each person's meal one at a time, but just keep feeding those sticks in and you've got a continuous cooking fire.

I purchased the scout to use for coffee and to boil water to kill the beaver fever bugs etc. I live in alaska and spend a good deal of time in the outdoors. It is easy to use and works like a champ. It will boil water in about 3 min. I use one charcoal bricket to keep things hot and just put some wood in the top and fire it up again. I purchased the aluminum model and it is well made and no problems with leakage or durability. If you want something to take along on a trip or boat. this is it. You will not be disapointed.

I got this amazing kettle last week. It works great to boil water and cook with the included pan and accessory kit. The kettle is a hallow stainless steel container that you fill with water and that shields the fire you build inside the container from wind and weather so you can keep a fire going in any condition. It uses pretty much anything flammable to burn inside it, such as sticks and pine cones. The chimney effect of the kettle boils water in 3 min or less. There are some great YouTube videos showing how the kettle works go check them out. Only down side is the kettle gets black and dirty from use but it comes with a case to keep the black soot from getting all over your pack. It beats hauling around fuel from a jet boil type of device. I give it a big thumbs up!

I purchased this product based on their video and other video reviews on youtube. It works as advertised, but the fire wasn't as easy to maintain as demonstrated on any of the videos. I built a nice fire but the side farthest from the inlet hole kept going out, so it needed lots of tending. I tested it out with very dry tinder and fuel, which to me is worth bumping down the rating to 4 stars. If the fire was hard to maintain with wet tinder and fuel I wouldn't care that is what you would expect. On the plus side I ended up boiling 88 ounces of water, 2 kettles, by basically using the box it shipped in and some sticks but had to tend the fire constantly unlike when using a stove. I may end up drilling some more vent holes in the burner pan to increase air inflow at the point farthest from the factory air hole.

This is perfect and works great. I'm using it for hunting and canoeing in Alaska. I found that I need to put a papertowel between the pieces to keep them from making noise in my pack. Other than that, it's the best lightweight way to boil water I've ever used.
