As a student of Italian and user of this textbook, I feel the vocabulary used in stories, newspaper articles, and editorials featured in In Viaggio are too high-level for third and fourth semester Italian students. The glossary in the back of the book is very unhelpful because it is only in Italian and only for the vocabulary already defined for each chapter, not for the random and unfamiliar words used in the extra articles and stories which students are also responsible for. The textbook used for Italian 1 and 2 was better suited to LEARNING, not reading in Italian for pleasure, or whatever this book is intended for.

I used this book for two semesters of advanced Italian grammar and I must say that the book is only as good as the instructor. That said it is not a book for a self learner-beginner to Italian. I am also an Italian tutor and from a teachers prosepective it is a very hands on book, at times the exercises are little tedious (such as the questions after each section of the readings which are the exact same questions for each section and each reading). However, this book was not made to learn the Italian language but to perfect it!
