About the Author
Bernard Turner was born in Bronzeville and educated in the Chicago Public School system. He studied German as an undergraduate at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and attended graduate school at the University of Chicago. Mr. Turner has been a teacher of German and Spanish on the secondary level and has worked in educational publishing in sales and marketing since 1978. Currently, he is the district manager for sales for Zaner-Bloser Educational Publishers and a docent at the Chicago Historical Society. He gives tours on Chicago History at CHS, and walking tours of Old Town and Lincoln Park, the park. He also provides Green Line and Brown Line L tours and guided tours of Bronzeville. Mr. Turners second publication, TJ and the Mysterious Stranger highlights the challenges and triumphs of a young man who becomes a newspaper boy in order to help out his family after the death of his father. Highlights of Chicago Press is currently in the prepublication process for a social studies book on Chicago for grade 3 called Our ChicagoPeople and Places. This book will feature units on Chicago History, including DuSable and Fort Dearborn as well as a unit on Chicago government.
