There's always a lot of press about how Moms are stressed out trying to balance a career and work, but not so much about Dads. I guess it's just been a given for so long that Dads will head off for a career that not much thought has been put into just how stressful that can be. Not anymore. Thank goodness our culture is turning things around and realizing that Dads are so critical to family success and must have some work /life balance too.I've seen first hand what the demands of a job can do to a family. The Dad who will drop everything for work and then carries guilt because he was never there for his kids. It just doesn't have to be that way. There are so many wonderful nuggets of advice in the book. Things that Dads (and Moms too!) can put into action to bring the word "unit" back into the phrase "family unit." There are practical and fun suggestions in here that won't cost you anything but your time. I had to laugh at some of the suggestions and can just picture a Dad and his kids doing them together. If you are a stressed out Dad -- or a Mom who is watching her husband grow further away from the family -- pick up a copy of this book and put it into action. Even implementing a couple of the tips inside will yield real results for you and your family.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was full of creative and practical ideas for things to do with your children. What I love is the underlying premise behind the book, which is simply spend TIME with your kids. So many parents these days just don't make time for their kids, and would rather their kids make their own fun via video games, music, and movies. I'm not saying those things are inherently bad, but Derek introduces better ways to entertain your kids. And go figure, it involves the parents! Derek does a wonderful job of including examples from his own life as well as including descriptive pictures that truly paint the picture of what being a great parent is all about.Get the book. You won't be disappointed!

Although I Have The Greatest Dad In All The World.....,
This review is from: Dad, can we...45 Ways to be the Dad Your Kids Need (Kindle Edition)
Any parenting book is worth the time to read, digest and learn tidbits of wisdom to carry over into your parenting skills. I am so thankful that I have a Great Dad who learned a great deal from observing others and just desiring to be the best Father that he could. Every Dad and Mom needs help knowing what to do. Children aren't born with a Guidebook attached to their tiny, precious feet.If you are stuck in a rut and feel "disconnected" from your children, get this book. It has answers - a lot of them. REAL answers to help you in your day to day quest to be the best Father you can be while your children need you desperately. Pay attention....life slips by super fast. P.S. My son got me addicted to Sponge Bob at an early age : ). P.S.S. Even though I'm a MOM, I loved this book and Moms could use these exact same strategies. P.S.S.S. I LOVED this book!!!!! ***** Kristie

Excellent advice and a big Wake-up call for a very busy single mom...,
This review is from: Dad, can we...45 Ways to be the Dad Your Kids Need (Kindle Edition)
Being a single mom with a toddler is not easy. Work 40+ hours and study 15+ hours a week, clean the house, wash the dishes, sort out the bills, ... and the list goes on. Really? Do I want a medal? No, not really. I don't want a medal at all. In fact, I don't want this life. I want more time, less work; quality time with those I care about. Until that happens - I thought - I need some help to make the most of the little time I spend with my son.I got this book two days ago and I must admit it was a big wake up call. My little pumpkin is the MOST important thing in the world right now and I can't believe how messed up our priorities can end up sometimes, particularly at times when things are hard, we are stressed out and extremely busy. Derek's book has not only been a wake up call for me, but it has given me the advice I really needed at this time in my life. Brilliant little ideas and suggestions that hit home and made me change my attitude and outlook on many things. I want to enjoy the little time I have with my son as much as possible, before it is too late. I recommend this book to all dads and moms - compulsory read!!

I bought this book for my husband and he absolutely loved it! A neighbor of ours recommended it because it was such a good read. It very refreshing to read such a positive book these days, just for Dads! This is a great book for Father's Day and any other day of the year. Not only Dads though, this is a great book for Mom's too. The pictures in chapter 2 are ADORABLE!

What a great little "instruction manual" on how to be the best Dad possible. I too wish I would of had this when my girls were little; particularly during those 8 years I worked a week on/week off at a remote location. It all worked out well but this would have been gold.I just found out I'm going to be a grandpa for the first time, so I'm looking forward to putting these ideas to work very soon. I wonder if they'll let me take my grandchild for a ride on my Harley? Just thinkin' and dreamin'... Great job Derek!

I think this was a great book for both dads and single moms or even all moms. It made me think about the time I spend with my son and what I can do to change that to make it better. A real eye opener :) I really enjoyed the book! Great job!

Great book! This is a very easy to read book in a friendly conversational tone.It sucks when Mom or Dad don't have the time to spend with their kids. Yes, even Moms nowadays. With both parents working this book is appropriate for Moms too. I laughed at this suggestion...Yummy, ice cream for breakfast will win you 'parent of the year' for sure. Many many more suggestions on how to create a strong and loving family unit where the kids aren't scared to ask for time with Dad or Mom. If parents implemented just a few of these many suggestions their kids would be super happy. What you teach your kids today is how they will interact with their kids in the future so it is an endless circle. This book will help you create those positive family traditions

Even though I'm not a Dad, seeing my child as a distraction really struck me..So I was glad that the rest of the book provided a solution and support on becoming a better parent. Actually, enjoying life more with my daughter together. Thank you very much, this was an excellent reading, just what I needed! And I just plain loved loved loved this book. :) It re-ignited in me that spark, of that exciting thing, being a Mom.. Thank you!!

Every working parent knows how tough it can be at times to balance work with family. This book is a fabulous reminder of what's really important and is chock-full of ideas for how to spend fun, quality time with your kids. The title says the book is for dads, but anyone with children will definitely find something to enjoy in this book.
