5.0 out of 5 stars this book can be an inspiration to all of us, August 8, 2006
By
This review is from: In 12 weeks You Can Control Your High Blood Pressure Without Drugs (Paperback)
'The book is upbeat, reading like the medical equivalent of a sermon from the Crystal Cathedral. The style is entertaining, friendly and motivating; so it's easy to read and reread. To follow The Program is to change one's lifestyle, not just one's diet. It is indeed, 'specific and comprehensive'. Not every reader will be able to adopt the upbeat life view which underlies it, but every reader will become more conscious of destructive things in his life which he should try to eliminate, and most of all learn a number of techniques for managing stress.
There is a good deal of well presented medical information in the book. Any patient with hypertension would profit by reading it. Some will be converted and 'go for it 100%'.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, August 10, 2006
This review is from: In 12 weeks You Can Control Your High Blood Pressure Without Drugs (Paperback)
This inspiring book has changed many lives, and has helped many others that are suffering from chronic conditions like hypertension, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, etc. and I'm pretty sure it will help us understand that prevention, healthy eating, stress management and daily exercise, is as important as breathing, because through the 12 week program and it's many techniques we will be empowered to change and enable our body to heal it self without the need of those costly medications.

3.0 out of 5 stars I should have been suspicious of the 5 star reviews, December 21, 2010
It did seem a bit odd that ALL the previous reviews were 5 stars but I decided to give the book a try and assume it was so great that NO ONE could find fault with it. Well now I suspect the other reviewers all have a vested interest in the book selling.....relatives? The 12 weeks of action plans is basically the same old same old eat better, reduce salt intake (by a lot!), lose weight, exercise more, find a way to de-stress and your blood pressure is likely to go down. The weekly "homework" is repeated chapter after chapter with very little change so that you can pass over quite a bit of the book without missing much. It got rather annoying when it seemed like every other week the check list included a visit to your doctor for a check up. Most of us don't have the means, funds, insurance, time, and patience to show up at our doctor's office and redo blood work that is usually at best a once a year ordeal so I found that suggestion to border on ridiculous.

The part of the book that was of value and reason to go up to a very generous 3 stars was the section on the commonly prescribed drugs for high blood pressure. Here the text was informative and interesting as it went into detail not only how the drugs work and why but also what are the long term consequences of using them and why they also may not work or why they should or should not be combined with other things. Even this information may be found easily in other places but in this book it was put together in a clear and easily understood way that gave the actual and best motivation for trying to reduce the need for the drugs.

The end of the book is filled with meditation narratives and again it was basically a lot of wasted space as the same old same old is repeated over and over but this time you are directed to read out loud into a tape recorder so that you can play the meditation back to yourself for de-stressing. I thought that was rather amusing since it is unlikely I would be able to relax while listening to the sound of my own voice playing in my ear. Maybe others will deem that useful but I think finding a professional meditative tape would be a better idea.

Over all the book is just ok. For someone needing a precise order or organizated way to proceed day by day to improved their health maybe the weekly check list idea will offer some help. Still the book could be reduced by saying "copy this check list and follow it for 12 weeks".
