I was expecting either 4:3 or 16:9. What screen does this fit?

Jeff R. says:
This will fit any screen. Widescreen TVs have an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 (16 divided by 9); the 4x3 TVs have a ratio of 1.33:1. Movies are usually shot in ratios of 1.85:1 or 2.35:1. When shown on a widescreen TV, movies with a "higher" aspect ratio will end up having black bars at the top and bottom to preserve the original aspect ratio - it's the same exact way you saw it in the theater. The size of the bars vary with the movie's ratio, meaning a movie shot in 1.85:1 tends to not have bars since it's so close to the TV's ratio; a 2.35:1 movie will have more noticeable bars. I recommend you check out http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/764 for more info.
