Review

It's a perfectly captured internal life: Contradictory, maddening, maudlin, desperate, pleased, pleasure-seeking. Maybe that's got something to do with the nasty responses Calloway generates: If you're not happy living with the mess in your own head, chances are you'll hate living with the voices in Calloway's head. - The Stranger

this book was presented in a few different parts (a few of them just pictures), but all told the story of the same girl. although there is a lot of sex in this novel, i don't think it should be labelled erotica, as it doesn't seem like that is the main point of the book.

to me, i feel the main point of this huge piece was to capture the intense emotion that a single person could have at any point in time. yes, the main character was whiny at most times, but this is the general thought process of a lot of humans!

I had read some negative things about this book but thought I would give it a chance because I like reading books that reflect the real side of people but this book was a mess. It was just screen shots and some conversations....it felt all over the place and really didn't feel like she did any real writing. I think she could be an amazing writer but this book just didn't do it. Just felt like a waste of time.

The only thing I liked about this book was it's format. Very interesting and fun to read because of the way it's laid out.
But this girl is so strange...and I don't consider myself to be old (I'm 28), but what on earth is the "meow" thing all about?
I honestly hated the book and the only reason I finished it was because of how it was presented.

The reason I chose the book was for the title. I think when I read the title, I thought I would be able to relate to this girl. I've had bad relationships that I would love to ask the person that very question...but once I read it, I was really put off by the girl. I couldn't relate to her at all.

It was difficult to observe this young woman's self destruction and learn the root of her self loathing. And brave of her to write about it.

I found this book very hard to follow and really get into.

There really was no "story" to it.
Would like to read about her experience as a biography that is continuous and not as broken up.

This is a sometimes hard to endure but bravely composed work ... an honest confronting of what makes a particular person who she is. (I'm guessing here about the "honest," of course, but few people would *dishonestly* own up to such mysteriously raw thoughts and feelings as M.C. does; there'd hardly be a point, in nonfiction.) We need more writers like this, as uncomfortable as they make everybody. We don't need all writers to be like this -- please, no -- but more.
