I've been meaning to comment on this to Amazon because somewhere in their verbage they say "not standard" batteries, but it takes two AA batteries. They really need to change that on their description.

It's used 2 AA batteries, that you can buy from any where if you batteries get low. You can use 2 AA rechargeable lithium batteries which do not come with it. Also you will need to purchase a battery charger too, if you use the rechargeable batteries.

I have now sent in my camera to Nikon for the third time!!!! Mine would NOT work on rechargable batteries. My suggestion is to NOT buy this camera if u plan to use rechargables. Alkaline seem to work well but we travel a lot and don't want to carry a backpack full of alkaline batteries ..

I have had MORE trouble with Nikon and this camera. They have "jacked me around" about the batteries. It has been to their service dept. 2 times and is on the way now. It will NOT work with rechargeable batteries even though they and the manual say it will. Then this week the said the "recommended" battery is Alkaline.............!!!!!!! I have told them that if I can't use rechargeables I want another camera. we'll see!!!
