I was just wondering how you guys think this set will sell in the US and around the world?
Considering the music business lately and how compilations don't sell very well in the US, I am predicting it to debut around 15 or so. Around the world I'm not sure...
Madonna's Celebration set sold pretty well around the world and debut at #1 on the United World Charts, which is pretty amazing considering that Greatest Hits don't really sell well.
Also, when will Janet tour again...?? I was so upset that the last tour bombed! I couldn't believe that Janet of all people couldn't fill up an arena.... :(
Do you think Janet has lost her commercial (maybe even creative) spark? I mean Discipline didn't go to number 1 anywhere yet Madonna's Hard Candy debut at a record setting #1 in 37 countries and her Sticky & Sweet tour set a record for the top tour by a solo artist.
Janet can do the same, she just needs to get her grove back. I miss that girl!
Well look at how Madonna dresses i mean back in the day "cone bras" i mean seriously.....and Janet's CD Discipline in my opinion was way better then Madonna's Hard Candy which I heard all the songs off both CD's Well No one knows how much the CD could sell..And with you predicting it to debut around 15 that may happen but we won't know till after its release all i know is I'm going to buy it.
And i think i was completely off the subject you were talking about sorry.
Madonna may have dressed a little funky, but that has surely become an iconic look for her. I guess I am just saying I wish Janet had that global success that Madonna has! If there is anyone that can do it, it's Janet for sure!
Let's face it, both women have dressed kinda crazy over the years...That's why people love them!
Do you think Janet could get that level of success again? #1 in 37 countries is a pretty amazing accomplishment...I hope Janet can do it.
Actually you are wrong. The album DISCIPLINE did in fact debut @ #1 in the U.S. That I know is a FACT, it was her sixth album to top the chart, which breaks even her brother Michael's five-album run. Janet may not be as good as she used to be, but she stands head-and-shoulders above the competition. That is why I went out to see her show @ the Allstate Arena last year. (It ROCKED!!!) The reason her last 3 albums were commercial "failures" is due to a lack of promotion. As a sidenote, I was ECSTATIC to hear about her break-up with one Jermaine Dupri. Did anyone else notice how her career took a major plunge after she started dating him? Coincidence this was NOT. The were trying to make her out to be something she is NOT: urban, hip-hop, GHETTO. I mean this is Janet Jackson for God's sake. She comes from Pop ROYALTY! On the plus side, I instantly fell in love with her new song, Make Me, which will be included in the Number Ones album. Hopefully this is a return to form for our beloved Miss Jackson!!! :D
I wish her all the best success! I have high hopes considering her new single "Make Me" is HOT and has got nothing but positive reviews that I've seen. I think after Michael's death people are more than ready for her to make her true, BIG comeback. I am also wondering about a tour. I have never seen her live, but I did get a copy of her Velvet Rope/All For You Tour DVD 2-Pack. After watching that, I feel like I HAVE to see her live!
Since Superbowl Janet has lost a lot of her popularity (which is a shame). Even though I still loved her past 3 albums, the public wasn't ready to give her another chance. To be fair though, Dupri really did hurt her career. I am hoping now that they are over her music will rise up again. I think the greatest hits will sell well if she promotes it (and we can all know how shy Janet is about going on talk shows) and maybe if there is a new video to 'Make Me'- which is such a great song! There definitely is a market for her now that Michael passed on (unfortunately). She could sell a lot of albums if she caters a little bit to his fans... after all, she is the only Jackson left to continue the legacy. I hope Janet makes it big again, but either way, I love her more then any other artist.
ah discipline debuted at number one on the hot 100 bilboard chart. it was her sixth album to debut at number one which means she has more number one albums than michael. janet has six micheal has five. get your facts straight please before you post something. check her resume.....................
Discipline did debut #1 in the US in 2008, selling a total of 181,000 copies it's first week. At that time, she surpass her brother with 6 number one albums and she is currently in third place among females. Barbra Streisand at 8 and Madonna at 7 number one albums. Janet is currently tied with Mariah Carey with 6 #1 albums. It is expected for Michael's "This Is It" album will debut at #1, which will put him in tie with Janet & Mariah. When Michael passed in June, if his albums were eligable to chart on the Billboard 200, he would of surpassed Janet and Mariah Carey. His album "Number Ones" and "The Essential Michael Jackson" would of both hit #1 on the Billboard 200, along with "Thriller 25". He would of been likely tied with either Madonna or Barbra.
D. Graham, Madonna's Greatest Hits is actually selling well considering it's a Greatist Hits Album! It's not an album of new material, so therefore, it's not going to be a "Chart Topper" but a #7 debut in the US is really good considering that. Madonna's Celebration even debut at number 1 on the United World Chart (a global chart of more than 20 countries) and was there for 2 weeks and was number 1 in Europe for 4 weeks. That's unheard of for a Greatest Hits....It's probably one of the best selling Greatest Hits of recent years.
If it was an album of new material and debut at number 7, that would be a different story. For example, Mariah's CD "Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel", it's bombing everwhere and that a CD of new material. I love Mariah but her new album is flopping and I hate to say it, but Island Def Jam may be releasing her from her contract if this continues. 3 out of her 4 CD's with IDJ have flopped. The only hit CD was The Emancipation of Mimi.
Like I've said....the new album sales are ticket sales...they (Janet & Mariah) need to do tours! The music industry is changing to where ticket sales are becoming album sales!
According to Janet-xone there will be a video issued for "Make Me". Hopefully this will give Janet the publicity she needs to make the album sell. It is a great collection and Janet deserves to be on top again! She has a lot on her plate for 2010- a new book, album, and movie (and we can wish for a tour). I would love to have the Rockwithu tour released on dvd.
