Product Description

A Universal Question, thoughtfully answered!

What do you think: Will we see our dogs and cats in the hereafter? Does God's plan for eternity include the created nonhuman world? Franciscan friar and popular writer Father Jack Wintz brings a love for all creation and infectious enthusiasm to the serious task of exploring answers to these long-asked questions,

In Will I See My Dog in Heaven? Father Jack admits that no one really knows what God has in mind for us in the next life. But in ten thoughtful chapters, he lines up evidence from the Scriptures, Christian tradition and liturgy, and the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, that God desires all creatures (yes, including our beloved pets!) in the afterlife.

About the Author

Jack Wintz, O.F.M., has been writing and editing for St. Anthony Messenger magazine since 1972. Among Father Jack’s many interviews are those with Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Gene Kelly, Bob Newhart, Martin Sheen and Senator Edward Kennedy. Since 2001, he has been the author of the e-newsletter Friar Jack’s E-spirations (www.friarjack.org).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, July 4, 2009
As a Friar Minor, Fr Jack imparts the values of the founder of his Order, St Francis, through his thorough treatment on this subject. I have been asked exactly the same question (the title of the book) by many too. Now I know how to answer this question well without complicated theological jargons and pretensions - but with style and true Franciscan sensibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comforting for my granddaughter's loss, November 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered 2 of these booklets. One for my self and one for my grieving granddaughter who lost her 10 year old Pug who had been her closest companion since she was 6 years old. She is a very spiritual for a girl of 16 but the loss of her dear friend was beginning to be unhealthy. She had discussed her feelings with our parish priest and he was very helpful. This book ia a comfort for her. I ordered one for myself as I have a 17 year old rescue dog that I have had for 15 years and am going to be facing his loss probably in the near future. I recommend this book for anyone who knows the love that can exist between a human and their devoted dog.

3.0 out of 5 stars What About the Animals We Eat?, September 30, 2009
By kevin griffith (Columbus, OH United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was disappointed that the author never addresses the ethics of eating animals. I agree with almost all the points he makes about animals being a part of God's kingdom in Heaven.

But what about those 20 million birds and mammals we slaughter every day in the United States to satisfy our appetites?

Imagine if I took a dog as a puppy and put it in a metal cage, kept it indoors--away from sun, grass, and fresh air-- until it reached maturity, and then killed it and ate it. I would be charged with animal cruelty and rightly so.

Yet many dog lovers have no problem at all eating a pig that has undergone the same treatment.

I am pretty sure St. Francis was a vegetarian. And for good reason.
