5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun
How to entertain an 8-year-old who is stuck at Grandma's house sick? Grandma has an old-fashioned TV that doesn't do video games and a terribly slow computer. Happily, we found this toy that provided hours of fun. While at the drug store getting his prescription filled he chose these magnets because he'd seen some at school and was intrigued. It's been a long time...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cool conversation piece
I bought these for my 13 year old son for his birthday. He likes them and seems interested in the physics going on but they are a bit limited in what you can do with them. Still for a very low price, they make a great little desktop conversation piece and they may stimulate a kid to think about the "why" and "how" of what's going with these little magnets.

It's been a long time since I've seen him so fascinated with something for so long. The magnets are quite heavy for their size (approx. 2" long)and have a highly polished surface, which makes them inviting to hold. They are very strong and can be made to do all sorts of interesting `magic' things, from moving mysteriously on the top of a table by virtue of the other held below the surface, to dancing and wiggling around on the floor. When they connect, they make an interesting buzzy sound. Even I had fun playing with them. Because their magnetic field is so strong, it's easy to learn a great deal about magnetism without even trying. I wish we'd gotten two sets to double the fun. An inexpensive toy that teaches and spurs the imagination is hard to find. Highly recommended.

Update 12/1/09 -- Back for more.

These fun magnets remain such a favorite at Gramma's house (with Gramma too, who plays with them as much as the kids do--they can be kind of addictive :) I ordered more for the kids to take home and for great inexpensive gifts for them to give friends. There are two magnets in each package and it's important to note that some vendors offer a very low price, but don't combine shipping so it's good to check before buying in quantity.

My kids have had a lot of fun with these magnets. They have had them over a year and they still have fun with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars mystic magnets, July 13, 2009

My kids love these magnets... they all can use them pretty well. Although it can get kind of loud and annoying it also can teach them about magnets.

one must be steady; holding your hands out, curved slightly with a bead in each palm then throw up.

do not use over a concrete or wooden floor, as my son (12) broke his first set. He absolutely loves the buzzing beads.

I would not advise it for a child under perhaps 7, but it is very useful to use in front of toddlers as they seem to be rather entranced when watching - not to be given to children that age or under though of course.

No one has suggested using these magnets to reset the tire pressure sensors used on most new cars. You can pay $20 to $400 for a "tool" to reset the sensor, or pay big bucks to have a garage reset your sensors. All that is needed is a small magnet, a speaker magnet will suffice, but this magnet works perfectly. All that is needed is this magnet and about 5 minutes of your time.

Call it a toy, but it can be a very useful tool. Don't allow yourself to be at the mercy of 'shady' tire shops, and be faced with garage costs because of the lack of a reset 'tool'. No intellect required. Buy these magnets, and tell your friends.

These strong magnets are fun to listen to as well as demonstrate the power of magentic fields to my 6 and 5 yr old boys. This is a great find.

The outer coating on these magnets quickly wear away after repeated use. The result is a grey powder left on your hands after playing with the magnets.

I love the sound these magnets make! Hold them in your hand, clink them together, or let them pull together and listen to them "sing". They're really powerful too so they'll work as regular magnets. Great for teaching kids about magnetic force!

I bought these for my 2 year old son.

He is fascinated by magnets and plays with them quite often. Since he is not as coordinated as an adult, he can't throw them in the air to hear them buzz. Actually, he can, but he can't catch them, hence the replacements.

When used as directed, they work fine and are not likely to chip or break, but I bought these for when my son accidentally breaks the ones he has now. It's a good product at a good price. I would recommend it.
