Book Description

Design Directories May 1, 2000
Consulting this manual will make life infinitely easier for anyone at a computer who is striving to make type look good and read well on the Web.

In contrast to technical manuals, this book concentrates on the look of type, its appropriateness for given projects, and whether type should be displayed as pictures or as HTML text. Type possibilities are explored through applications for personal, informational, institutional, advertising, and hybrid sites. A gallery of three hundred sites for type design shows readers how to apply the same rules to their type designs for the Internet.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, August 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: www.type: Effective Typographic Design for the World Wide Web (Paperback)
www.type has a nice cover... we all know the rest. it has a few good examples of websites, a whole lot of what not to do and not much else. i really think that richard pring was more interested in slandering bad sites than collecting good ones. the book also contains quite a few badly executed 'eyecandy style' images 'designed' to demonstrate best practice. all in all it's a badly designed design book... a true 'design book for the blind'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Balanced, colourful., August 8, 2001
This review is from: www.type: Effective Typographic Design for the World Wide Web (Paperback)
I've really enjoyed this colourful book. I have brought it to meetings to show clients different 'styles' before producing the graphics of a home page. So I particular liked the 100 page 'show case' showing many good examples of well-balanced home page layouts. The 'sites best unseen' could have been left out.
