Frustrating.com,

Great idea, poorly executed. This was the first all Winston 60 Whitbread race in history and not one good photo of the yacht design by itself... Average text, but no real immersion of what it's like to be on the deck of a 60 foot boat hurtling down 30 foot waves at 23 knots! Then when the photos do come they are tiny. Order a magnifying glass with this book it will help you to see the itty, bitty, little pictures they think you'll be able to see. Add to that, text font size changes a minimum of 3-4 times per sentence and you're wondering how they got $$ out of you. It's clear that no one proofed the book before it went to press. With silver type over black background, or orange type over yellow background no one on the publishing staff had to tilt the book just right to catch the light so you could finish reading a sentance that has changed color and font sizes 3 times while it blends into the photo background. Considering the race covers 31,000 miles not one comprehesive chart was offered, except for the plot lines of the yacht's courses being implied. As an avid sailor I had to read the book but I think the website is a better deal if they're still posting the content.

Raw photos overlaid with graphics that have chutzpah!,

This is without a doubt the best executed book that I have read, fathomed and then had imprinted on my senses, in many years. All the photography was done by the crewmembers of the sailboats as the action took place. Some of the best pictures were taken under extremely arduous conditions during tropical storms and worse, capturing the raw emotion of the moment. Then to these raw photos a wonderfully imaginative graphic team added beyond the edge graphics that distinctively captured the excitement of this great race. If you have a desire to see true courage interwoven with awesomely interpreted graphics style buy, read and read again and read again this wonderful book. If you want to experience true grit merged with a superlative sense of style, this book is a must have. You will peruse, contemplate and luxuriate in this book for many months, years and decades to come!

I was excited to have a book filled with pictures from the Whitbread race, which is precisely how they have advertised this book. Unfortunately the pictures are not escpecially sharp and they have covered them with little captions. I was quite dissapointed to get so little in a pricy, hard cover book. Don't waste your money.
