Editorial Reviews

At last, xxv, the long awaited album from heavy proggers Pallas is to be
released on the 26th April 2011 on the Music Theories Recordings label.
It will be the first album to feature new vocalist Paul Mackie and as
previously announced it is the sequel to the bands hugely successful
Sentinel album 25 years on. With the 25th Anniversary of The Sentinel
approaching, work commenced on a new studio album, and the theme
chosen was what would have happened after the optimistic celebratory ending of The Sentinel had been corrupted by human nature and the Sentinels returned to take their experiment to its ultimate completion.
Thus xxv was born. During the progress of the writing and rehearsing a decision was made to replace singer Alan Reed with locally based Paul
Mackie. 5 years after their last studio album Pallas will return with the
follow up of the progressive rock classic The Sentinel. The band signed a
new record deal with the Mascot Label Group, and celebrated this early
September 2010 with a headline performance at the famous German
open air theatre Loreley. xxv will be performed live during 2011 all over
Europe. Pallas is already confirmed to headline the IO Pages Festival on
the 15th April 2011 near Den Haag.

Album includes Limited Edition DVD with:
Falling Down, Monster, Young God,
Violet Sky, Day On The Rock,Night On The Rock
(Filmed at Loreley 'The Rock Entertainment')

Those who are familiar with the biblical Revelations, the warnings of the coming of the Anti-Christ, and Armageddon to come will surely recognize a secular version of those prophesies in Pallas' powerful and electrifying XXV. This is a theme album on which Pallas and its new lead singer Paul Mackie thrusts the band to the forefront of the world of prog-metal along with bands like Pendragon, Opeth, and Pain of Salvation.
I like the entire album immensely, but here's what I enjoy most: the stirring Falling Down, in which man's hubris has us heading for the fall; the driving, pounding Crash and Burn; the foreboding and memorable Monster; the bombastic Alien Messiah (as Anti-Christ) with his promises of glory if only we follow him; the dark final warning of Twenty Five Good Honest Men; the eerie, mesmerizing Violet Sky; and the haunting finality of The Unmakers Awake. An enjoyable DVD that features live excerpts from the album and a slide show is also provided. Very nice, but I wish that the entire album live could have been shown.
XXV is packaged in a standard jewel case with the discs stacked, though easily removed. The accompanying booklet features lyrics, album info, and inspired artwork that fits the mood of the music. Pallas doesn't release many albums and this one is said to be the sequel of another theme album released twenty five years ago. If you like intelligent, hard-driving music then you are almost sure to like this endtimes extravaganza.

I was waiting for this one a long time. The wait was more than worth it. The new singer is promising. The music is heavy, dark and more than progressive. These guys continue to get better and better with each CD. Long time Pallas fans should not expect the same type of music as the The Sentinel. This one is different but in a good way. Brown does some amazing keyboards and Murray has the Rickenbacker up front. Mathewson plays some stellar guitar throughout and drums are solid. It's really amazing that this band just keeps out doing themselves with each consecutive release. And, I like all their CDS- it just seems like they keep trying to please prog lovers like me. This is a credit to these musicians who really love the progressive genre and they celebrate it. Thank goodness for bands like Pallas who are keeping up the prog flame. They brought prog back to life in the eighties, came back to life in the 90s and burned it up in the 2000s. Now in this decade they make a new prog statement very much unlike any of their other CDS. Those of you that really like Pallas will love this. It's probably not what you think but that's what is great about it.

From start to finish XXV is a creative energy filled, prog oriented release that will be vying for prog album of the year. The cd gels together like the Cross and the Crucible, with many many new prog bites from all of the band. Sorry Alan, but you were totally outdone. The band is tighter than ever, and seems to be playing off of each other better than ever. Great guitar, bass, keys riffs throughout, kept in order by the drums. It is a little heavier at times than usual, which is a good thing, because it keeps everyone guessing. An absolute 10 on the music meter. A must have for Pallas, and all prog fans

this is an introduction to "PALLAS",and a fitting one as i am deeper into my 10 year love affair with prog rock and its masters....."DREAM THEATER,SHADOW GALLERY,OSI,FLOWER KINGS,PORCUPINE TREE,"and the list would continue for days.
the artwork on the inner lyric ,and dedication pack precisely depicts the song it is assigned to.
these modern day "NOSTRADAMUS'",create their interpretation of the end of days vision.a masterful weaving of music, and art depict the darkness that could surround us at any point soon.
if you have read any of my other reviews ,you know that i love dark, eerie ,haunting melodies and words,as well as images.a particularily difficult thing to create in prog rock due to its off time signatures, and constantly changing telling of a story.
this band has taken hold of me,and stands me up to take notice.i can see me playing this cd to death.i am not certain ,but i believe in other reviews which i skimmed through, this is a release long in the long i'm not sure.i hope to hear of them in concert soon near my area.
they have a great understanding and usage of sound effects and background effects that heighten the mystery within just about all offerings.great keyboard work, with a ton of versatility.i love the fact that a pro guitar player Niall Mathewson actually uses squier strats.i have a limited edition "SQUIER FAT STRAT" with a mirrored pickguard and matching painted black headstock.i love the guitar and also play out with it.
"FALLING DOWN" is the lead off track and begs us to ask ourselves it any wonder why we are heading quickly into the endtimes?we bring this possibility on ourselves by selfish acts, greed, hate ,and all of the other 7 deadly sins.
