I agree the book is just bad. I can't go past the first sex scene where she loses her virginity. Unreal and Anastasia is the most unbelievable character I have ever read.

Amen. How did you get the refund?

I bought the Kindle version, if that's what you have just go under Manage Kindle to the list of books you have and the pull down menu to the far right has the option for a refund. If you bought the book in the store, I would think you can get a refund if the book isn't damaged...not sure. Worth a try.

Yes it's pretty disgusting how her virginity was treated like such an annoyance to Christian rather
than a thing to treasure. He jus wanted to get it over with rather than respect that maybe HER first time should be a thing of beauty and love!!! It's not like she wanted something cheap and meaningless. Pretty sad that people think it's a love story at all!

OMG! I didn't even read it and I hate it. Even Ann Rice does a better job w/ erotica. " Down There"? Seriously? What did she call the guy's "member"? Ding Dong? Schlong? Mr. peePee?
Please tell me it wasn't Manhood!

What a fiasco! Why do we even give this the time of day to bother commenting on it much less reading it.

I borrowed this book from a family memeber....I wish I could give it back and act like it never happened. Sadly I can not. Ana and Christian will haunt me for the rest of my life!!!! Why is it all the 5 star reviews never mention the child abuse and only Christian's hotness? They never talk about how simple Ana is, only how lucky she is to be in the presense of 50 shades of unbelievable??? Who can give expert he*d the very first time???? lol this book should have been listed under comdey. No disrespect to the dom/sub community but seriously???

Anyone read Fifty Shames of Earl Grey? It is a parody to FSOG and is hilarious. I been laughing so hard my eyes were tearing :)

Ugh! It was awful! I had reconciled in my mind that I wasn't going to read them, but then my sister and a cousin talked me into it, plus I wanted to see what all the hype was about. Should have stuck to my guns on this one. I ended up purchasing the entire book set. I stopped reading half way through the first book and then skimmed it to the end. I can't even return them because I had opened them, and I have no desire to read the other two. Today, while at a family function, I was trying to explain to my sister, cousin, and even my mother everything that is wrong with this book and they couldn't believe that I hated it! I wish that I had my Kindle with me because I would have shown them some really good BDSM/erotica novels that are well written. I'm taking my Kindle to the next family function and I'm going to show them what good writing looks like!

I have not and will not read these books. What I can't figure out is WHY these books are "in" right now? Despite it being in the Top 100 for over 110 days it's only received 3 stars and so have the later books in the series. There are FREE books that have received 5 stars and have much better reviews.

Is it just because it has sex in it? Is it because it's being endorsed by a celebrity and well, anything being endorsed by a celebrity MUST be good right?! Why are we giving our money to a writer that can't write and whose books are not worth the good money we (in general) are giving her? I don't mean to offend anyone here if they LOVE her books but from what I'm reading it's just "Meh, not as good as it could have been or other books I've read."

Please help me understand why this trash (forgive me) is a MUST READ trilogy!

This is a set of books for those people who faithfully follow the Kardashians, who cannot go more than 45 seconds without checking their smart phones, who think rap is music, who believe MP3 compressed music on an IPOD is as good as a CD on a quality stereo, who learned "whole language" in elementary school and who do not have any opinions of their own, who actually believe the NY Times best seller list actually reflects book purchases (and is not manipulated.) It is written for the poor schmucks who will buy crap because it is the "in" thing to read.

People, this is not literature, not even something a high school sophomore would write (and I apologize to sophomores for pejoritizing them.)

Without download purchases- essentially non refundable- this set of pathetic drivel would not be on any seller list.

Don't buy it, don't bother thinking about it and please give sympathy to those who think this is something exceptional.

If you already have the set, give it to someone you don't like.

This was a book I could not even finish. First of all I found the domination/submission disgusting. Anastastia keeps thinking that had her roommate not been ill that her roommate would have been the one with the idiot Christian. Really? I think her roommate was far wiser than Anastasia. The book was repetitive, poorly written and just plain trashy. Erotica is fine and can be fun to read. This was not.

I read 2/3rds of this 'book' back in May (it was a birthday present from my sister. I haven't forgiven her yet!), and STILL keep thinking 'If only Kate hadn't been ill. She'd have done the interview, he'd have tried to come onto her, she'd have told him to do one, end of the book'. However, I'm thrilled to find like-minded people here who think like me.
@George...I love you!!!!

I believe most of the time she called it, "his erection." To me, it sounds like it came from a teenager's point of view. Just horrible all around.

The only thing I can figure out about why it is a "must read" is because it's connected to Twilight. I checked it out from the library and it's horrible. Yes, there's a lot of sex in it, but it's not all hot or what others have referred to as "mommy porn" The sex scenes are boring and sounds like they were written by a teenager. I lost count of how many times it was said "he touched me there" "he kissed me down there". Nothing erotic about this book at all.

Posted on Jul 30, 2012 10:03:03 AM PDT
I agree with all of the above. At first, I thought it was being written for teenagers. After continued reading I kept wondering what the hell??? It is probably the most boring book I have read and had to force myself to finish it just to see if something really was going to happen and if there was a plot I missed.

This book is the worst piece of bile I've ever read. It is making me consider going back and bumping up all my previous one star books to two stars because they are nowhere NEAR as bad as this. I feel like I'm going to have an ulcer every time I have to explain why I hated it to someone who liked it. And all the people who say "you just have to get past the writing and enjoy the story." ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? That's what a book IS, the WRITING. And what kind of wonderful story is this? The plot is as riveting as a porn movie, except with less compelling characters.

Yes, let's promote the idea that a man who is controlling, threatening, physically violent, and doesn't allow you the time or space to have your own life and thoughts, is actually romantic. Thank God Ms. James doesn't have daughters.

I had to let you know that your comment made me laugh out loud for five minutes. Mr. PeePee is still a far better name than "Christian Grey flavored popsicle".

Hey, I'm still getting over the idea that people who read the book think the term " down there" is arousing!! Really?!
