Brother. I wanted to buy a gift certificate for my daughter for Christmas so she could buy books for her Kindle, which I bought her last Christmas. This sounds WAY too confusing and a gift should not cause such angst. If you have a step by step process for redeeming a gift card for books, I would be interested in knowing the exact steps. Thanks.
you people have just gotten to the heart of my problem as well! I just gave a Kindle to an avid reader 11 yr old and a $50 gift card! but she cannot use either without registering a credit card?? Right! Even though I trust her, she brings it on the bus, to a park, wherever... and anyone can access info, charge things... why make children responsible for more than books when you give them a Kindle?
I totally agree, there should be a Kindle gift card to be used for Kindle books only!!! It is ridiculous. If you give them an Amazon card, the person has to go ALL through EVERYTHING at Amazon.com (my 84 yr. old dad) and it is just too confusing. If you could give them a gift card it COULD be so EASY. What is so hard about this Kindle??? You flood my FB with crap,,, come out with Kindle gift cards only!!! Sass!!
I just placed an order with Amazon wanting to use my gift card from last Christmas. That $50 was already on my account, but there was no place to indicate that I wanted to use that money instead of charging it to my credit card. Now I have this purchase on my credit card and still have $50 in my account! I tried to go back in and change the charge, and the only option was to use another credit card! I am so frustrated. Can anyone help.
I agree with you!! We decided to get my 80 year dad a Kindle for Christmas and grandkids were going to get Amazon gift cards so he could purchase books for it. We set it up for him this weekend and bought a Amazon gift card so we could download some books so he could have it ready to go when he received it. I was shocked after my husband purchased the gift certificate (by the way on the face of the certificate it said "Amazon Kindle" and we could not use it without entering a credit card first. I don't know what to do. My 80 year old dad would NEVER put his credit card info on the internet!! I know others who have bad credit and don't have a credit card and they are getting a Kindle for Christmas. I'm guessing they will have to return theirs also. So what should we do?
But not allowing content to be bought using a gift card on Kindle Fire, is ridiculous and small thinking on the part of Amazon I bought a kindle Fire and I feel stupid having made that decision now. Need to spread the word and discourage people buying kindle Fire
I should have bought the Nook for my dad. Customers who purchase the Nook and buy gift cards from Barnes and Noble can easily use the cards to purchase and download the books. I don't understand why a representative from Amazon does not read this thread and offer us a reason why we should keep the kindles we purchased for gifts.
It did work! T. Bousquet says: I know I set a kindle up for making purcahses without a credit card and it is working fine. Cannot remember what I did. I am guessing I followed the directions on this link:
I have long been a fan of Amazon. Purchased several item on my account to my surprise this Christmas morning I find I cannot use a gift card for my daughter kindle fire's purchases without registering my CC or debit card! What a shock.
Maybe this is my fault for not researching this far enough. Trust me I spent hours comparing IPads, Android tablets, Kindles, and Nooks. Every other device can use a gift card without having to register a CC or debate card. Amazon what happened? Was this a miscalculation on your part? Was this a calculated plan in hopes of gaining sales though parents or individuals that were not paying attention, or give kids free reign with a CC? For those of us on a budget, this is a travesty to say the least.
I have already talked to my daughter, and we are considering returning this device in favor of another device.
Amazon please wake up and realizes your mistake and correct this before it is too late. Weather for or an adult of child I can NOT recommend this device for anyone until this problem is fixed.
Customer support please feels free to email me, as my email address is in my account. I would even be willing to talk to someone on the phone, and will provide number to CS if they are email and ask for it. I have been reviewing your return policy and am still on the fencing on returning the Fire.
