5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly different
What a breath of fresh air. Unlike current music, which seems to have no melody, I could hum along with this cd by the time I listened to it the second time. Some of the songs would make terrific sound tracks for movies. On the monotous drive to and from work, I was able to escape via zero4.

2.0 out of 5 stars More trance than downtempo
Time after time, I find myself giving in to that ever-so-strong impulse buy. You know the one. You hear a song like "Palm of the Prophet" which is so good that it makes your hair stand on end. I've burned myself many times before, I say to myself. Even IF all of the other tracks are only half as good this album can stand on its own, I reason. Then I promptly throw common...

5.0 out of 5 stars KIND OF LIKE GOOD VS. EVIL, October 23, 2006
This review is from: zero4 (Audio CD)
I love Antaeus' zero4 and Byzantine Meditation CDs. That's chill electronica / world fusion at its best. I was looking for more Antaeus albums to buy and came across a death metal / satanist rock band using the same name. Their albums De Principii Evangelicum, Blood Libels, and Cut Your Flesh and Worship Satan are not from the guy who did zero4 and Byzantine Meditation. Different artist, different music. It's kind of like good vs. evil.

Then I promptly throw common sense out of the window and click "add to cart".

If judged strictly on it's downtempo merits this album falls flat on it's face. Characterized by clunky rhythmic repetition, only "Palm of the Prophet" and "Bali (The Meditation Mix)" have enough middle eastern flavor to overcome the monotony. To contrast, Antaeus & Jatracus simply aren't serving up the rhythm fast enough for this to be judged as a trance album.

What Antaeus & Jatracus do cook up is a delicious blend of trance and downtempo served with a middle eastern reduction sauce. It's truly a combination that I've never heard before. If you're experiencing hunger pangs for a new sound, this album can stand on it's own. Just be warned that it may leave you feeling like you've eaten a bit more than you should have.
