Good:
-Outstanding audio quality for anything which does not depend upon bass drive.
-Excellent isolation, for the openness of sound. Really an achievement in voicing, to sound 'open' but keep out environmental noise.
-Very nice carrying case
-Very comfortable

Bad:
-Earpads failing after < 2 years, no support, replacements are 70$ with shipping and tax.
-Earpads are glued instead of connectorized.
-Headband retainer required tightening.
-Bass is weak.
-Cable is highly microphonic and uses mysterymeat proprietary connectors.

The sound is a solid four star effort, just a bit light on bass. For many things (classical especially) this is just fine. If you ever venture into EDM or anything with drums featuring prominently, it is noticeably lacking oomph.

The build quality and durability are not acceptable for the cost. I am especially charmed that the ad copy for the earpads admits that they made improvements to the longevity of the foam.

MrSpeakers is a little known headphone company based out of San Diego, CA. They build the headsets in CA, and they have a very stringent and meticulous build process. They tend to match the ear cups with very little tolerance of delta between them so the end user experience is very near perfect match. The fact that this is made in the USA makes me proud to own these.

Now, let's talk about what you get for $800. You get the closed back planar headphones. You get a good cable with both 1/4 inch and 3.5mm single ended connection (using a threaded adapter), with very minimal cable noise. I opted to get a set of balanced cables. The ends going into the headphones are Hirose connectors, very rare in the headphone industry, but it is a great connector. It also comes with a sturdy case (I am a fan of cases for almost everything.) It also comes with a microfiber cloth to keep your headphones free of fingerprints. It also comes with a 4 set of filters you insert into the ear cups. I am using the stock ones, and there are 3 other filters you can use to tune the ear cups to your liking or to the genre of music you listen to.

The build quality is top notch, and it definitely doesn't feel cheap in any way. It doesn't make plastic squeaky noises, the headband is NiTinol which is like a memory metal. You can twist the headband and it still goes back to the original shape. It is very sturdy. The ear pads are very comfortable leather, and it can be replaced when worn. I listened to both the open and closed back versions, and I preferred the closed. The ear cups are made of carbon fiber and what feels like wood with a midnight blue, metallic paint. Very solid. Comfort wise, I get lost in the music so I don't remember that I am using a pair of headphones. I don't get too hot around the ears wearing them, and it definitely doesn't feel heavy. Well build and designed for comfort.

Now the sound...Wow, it sounds very musical. I know that the sound can get better, but you'd have to spend over $1000 to get better than the quality of sound these headphones produce. The soundstage is wide, the vocals are clear, and it seems to provide a sense of air. If your ears are still in good shape, you can hear things you probably have not heard in some of your favorite recordings. Simple things such as the felt on the piano, the breath one takes between phrases of a song, or the lips touching during phrases. The detailed sound of the bass or guitar string. The depth and separation of each instrument in the song is very clear. The bass is deep enough without that annoying V shaped curve, nor does it muddies the low midrange and midrange. It just sounds like I am sitting in center front of a club, hall, or outdoor concert. The highs are clear but not piercing like some of the more higher priced headphones people tend to love, but I hate it because my ears are sensitive to all frequencies between 30Hz and about 16kHz, where outside of that band, it is less sensitive, but I can still hear it. I can clearly hear the hi hats and the brush or stick that is striking it. And if you do listen to Pop, Hip Hop, or Rock music, it sounds very clear and you'll definitely hear things you've never heard on your favorite songs. It is like experiencing those songs for the first time sometimes.

To conclude, I have to say, yes, I have heard better headphones, but those are in the $1500-$3000 range. And many in that range to me is too bright, too ruler flat (which is great in a recording studio), or not enough bass or something. This for me is well balanced, musical, and truly enjoyable. Very well designed and built, and this should last a very long time since the cables and ear pads are easily replaced. This is one of the best planar headphones in the sub $1,000 range. I tried at least 9 different planar headphones under $1,000 for at least 3 months each with over 50 hours of listening, and only one comes close which is the HiFiMan Ananda but with a different sound signature, and more money. If you want something musical as opposed to clinical like the Sennheiser HD800 series, then take a listen to these as they are my go to headphones for sub $1,000 headphones.

Remember that everyone's ears are different, and even your own ears are different from left and right, so your mileage may vary.

Hope this helps.

The Aeon Flow Closed is a fantastic pair of headphones, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. If you need a closed back headphone for their noise isolation, and can't or won't sacrifice any audio quality, then these are a fantastic choice. If, however, you will be using them in a setting where you could use an open-back set, I would generally recommend steering clear of expensive closed-backs like this. Options with equal or better sound quality (in my opinion) can be had for significantly less money if one is willing to purchase an open-back pair of headphones.

Let's get into the headphones themselves- I won't talk about frequency response as that's been done to death, and is a matter of individual preference.

PROS:

- BUILD QUALITY. These headphones feel like they will last many, many years. There's no creaking or grinding when adjusting anything, and moving parts are simple and robust, without compromising fit.

- comfort. Clamp force can be a little tight, but if you don't mind or can adjust to it, they are some of the most comfortable headphones I've worn. The teardrop shape doesn't work for everyone, but for me it's great. They are also much lighter than their size would suggest, likely due to the material choice.

- soundstage. The soundstage feels wider and significantly more immersive than my previous closed-backs (although those were of significantly lower general quality). Not quite as "open" as many open-backs of course, but for a closed headphone I am impressed.

- good noise isolation

- tuning options with included pads

CONS:

- cost. These are expensive headphones, and I don't find myself enjoying them any more than significantly less expensive open-backs. Value will come down to whether you need closed-backs or not.

- power draw. Although they can be driven to acceptable volume levels from a smartphone or computer headphone jack, I found noticeably better audio quality at (subjectively) equal volume levels if I switched to using a small portable amp such as the NX4DSD. Most notably to me, vocals felt very withdrawn when the headphone was on a lower-current source.

- not as "punchy" or "exciting" as other headphones. Whether this is a positive or a negative will be up to taste, but personally I prefer a bit more bite to my music than what I perceive with these. I didn't know what to think of reports of this before trying the headphone, but I did some a/b testing with other planar-magnetic headphones and can verify that this effect does exist in these headphones. Jury's still out on what causes this perception on some headphones, but it may have to do with driver behavior under certain conditions. I am currently setting up a system to see if this can be tweaked with modifications to files being played (basically, if software filters can adjust for this behavior). I'll update this if I get any results, positive or (likely) negative.
