Biography of Richard A. Mathews
For most of us there will always be trials and tribulations in life.
We all face the choice to follow the common path or the path less travelled searching out ways to be part of the solution in our journey through life.
Live to Love my friends. Deciding to make a ripple in time. Hoping to create the wave which washes ashore to change the landscape for the better of all.
That is my charge to you. It will be your greatest challenge. Yet the love you will be blessed with in return represents a bounty beyond material treasure.
Now for the disclosure, I have not followed my own request to you at times in my life. It is ironic I failed to fully embrace the value of Living to Love. My first “15 Minutes of Fame,” occurred while still in High School largely because I wrote a poem based on the value of loving our fellow man.
“The Greatest Crime.” - Published Scholastic Magazine 1977
From the nameless void of time eternal, a voice calls forth for all to hear.
It speaks of the wrongs which do occur both afar and far too near.
It speaks of the great wrongs done by man who refuse to offer an uplifting hand.
It speaks of the greater wrong done by those who know what must be done but refuse to do so.
It speaks of the wrong that is the greatest crime, our refusal to believe in our fellow man across space and time.
It was a full decade later that I chose to follow the path less traveled which led me to my soul mate, my wife of now 28 years and the mother of our four children.Yet to be fully factual, it was not until my dreams had been largely realized in 1993 blessed with a loving wife, a healthy newborn son and a promising career, that my charge to you became my focus in life once again.
Back pain sent me to the doctors saving my life. It also began a battle against my own body fighting cancer. Pending death forced me to realize, “Today is our present from God. What we do with that present is our gift to him and the children of his world.”
Like most of the 99%, I work to earn a living. I have faced similar trials and tribulations to many. In the end, I have found one truism, we all must chose to be part of the problems the world will always face or risk being part of the solution. I have chosen the later.
May my humble words presented offer you some hope, faith, peace and joy in your journey through life.
Peace be with you.
