Kirt Dreher (1967- ) was born in New York City, where he passed the first three months of his life and was left with indelible impressions of the Big Apple. He grew up in Littleton, Colorado, which had escaped everyone's notice until the horrific event at Columbine High School in 1999. He attended Pomona College (Go Sagehens!), graduating in 1989 with a degree in Russian Language and Literature. He spent a couple of years working at the US Embassy in Moscow, Russia, as a driver and dispatcher in the motorpool. A subsequent year Kirt spent living in Prague near the height of its popularity with the ex-patriate crowd (1993). Here he was able to concentrate on writing as he did not need a job to support himself. Shortly after returning to the US in 1994, Kirt moved out to Santa Barbara, CA, where he has since resided. He currently works at a small company he helped found in the aerospace industry.
