This book is AWESOME!!! Not only is the information in it diverse and inspiring, 1,001 Pearls of Yoga Wisdom is great to read in any situation. It can be read the whole way through, section by section, or opened to a random page for one 'pearl' paragraph at a time. It contains yoga poses, quotes, insights, visualizations, advice, mantras, mudras, and much more. I am a yoga teacher, and I've used it in my classes. The students seem to really enjoy it as well. If you like yoga, or even if you don't know much about it yet, this book is an excellent buy.

A great book with lots of quick information and interesting tidbits. Has given me great ideas to share with classes and I now start my practice each day with the warm-up suggested from the book. The reason for the 3 star rating is the books format. A little larger book with less pages would have been better. I have a feeling this book will eventually start to pull away from its binding. I open it and hold it ever so carefully. The other small complaint is the layout. The author broke the information down by morning, noon and night, That makes it hard to use it as a reference style book and find things you want. Putting the info together in categories ( ex. all mudras, all breathing exercises, all sayings, etc. ) and coding them with a symbol to suggest when in the day they are useful, would have made this book a gem........a pearl even. The illustration art is very pretty.

I am a new yoga teacher, and so I have eagerly sought resources to help me plan my classes. In particular, I like to have a theme for each class (e.g., "gratitude," "balance," etc.), and I like to share quotes with my students that fit with my theme. This book has proven to be one of the best sources I have found for the latter. One of the most helpful things about it is that it is broken up into categories, which makes it so much easier to find sayings that fit with my theme. If I am doing a class on transitions, I know I am likely to find something relevant under one of several sections, such as "Embracing Fluidity," "Accepting Change," or "Changing Gear." Plus, the book includes MORE than just quotes--there are meditations, pose guidelines, and practice suggestions. This book is an excellent guide for yoga teachers and a great source of wisdom for any yogi.

Short of taking the time to interpret ancient Sanskrit, 1,001 Pearls of Yoga Wisdom by Liz Lark is one of the best ways to gentle introduce yourself to the depths of the yogic universe. Read cover-to-cover or opened at random for a dose of daily divinity, 1,001 Pearls of Yoga Wisdom features mantras, breathing exercises, detailed descriptions of poses, mudras, chakras, and classic yogic teachings.

Whether a long-time practitioner or yoga newbie, you'll find a wealth of information in this book. All of the classic terms and styles are explained in plain English. Chunky and easily portable, you can skip to an applicable section via the Contents pages (#4-5) or simply open the book and read the first passage you see - both ways will a simple and graphically beautiful view into the wide world of yoga.

Choosing my favorite "pearls" of wisdom was no easy feat - and to tell you the truth, they are all fantastic! Below are a few quotes, practices, and lessons from 1,001 Pearls of Yoga Wisdom that help make my current days a bit brighter:

My favorite "go to" book for teaching yoga. Great quotations, ideas and insights. A quick little reference book. I take it with me to every yoga class that I teach. However, I am not super excited about the way the topics are organized. I have had to learn about where things are in it by studying the book and feeling out its method of organization. I use Post-it notes to mark what I want to refer to.

Also, as another person mentioned, it might be nice to have this book as a spiral so that the pages do not detach from the center spine. Bought this for a person getting her 200 RYT as a gift. It is one of the best reference books I have ever owned.

Note on the packaging of my sender: Wow! The book came in a tattered and torn white envelope and I was amazed the book did not fall out of its packaging. Really risky and I was lucky it came in tact and was not damaged. The package got damaged (shredded!) but the book was fine.
