Product Description
This O-ring is made of black Buna-nitrile, is round in cross-section, has a durometer of 70A, and is designed for use in a wide variety of sealing applications.
Buna-nitrile can have high tensile strength, and abrasion, tear, and compression set resistance. It can be used in temperatures between -30 degrees F (-34 degrees C) to 250 degrees F (121 degrees C), and is compatible for use with petroleum, HFA, HFB and HFC fluids, vegetable oil, alcohol, acids and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Buna-nitrile is vulnerable to acetone, ethers, esters, ozone, sunlight and weathering and should therefore not be used in ozone-generating electric motors, welding equipment, or in applications with exposure to UV light.
This Buna O-ring has a shore durometer of 70A. Shore durometer is the hardness of a material, and its resistance to permanent indentation. A higher durometer value indicates greater resistance to indentation on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 indicating no indentation.
O-rings commonly provide a pressure and fluid seal between cylindrically shaped, overlapping mating surfaces and are commonly seen in engines, faucets, flanges, valves, and various cylinders. They are circular in shape, with a round cross section, and a hole in the center, similar to a doughnut. O-rings are available in various sizes, and can be ordered based on required nominal inside diameter (ID), outer diameter (OD), and cross-sectional (CS) diameter.
These Buna-nitrile O-rings meet standards defined by Aerospace Standard AS568A, which is the Aerospace Size Standard for O-rings.

Here's a tip to install these easier that I found out a little over half-way through installing them: Push the O-ring on, let it pop off (because it will), and then push it right back on and it'll stay. At first, I thought it was only one side that installed easier, but after doing so many I realized that they just needed to be stretched a little bit and then they'll pop right on the second time no problem. Don't worry about getting the O-ring to the bottom of the key, just get it on the stem. You can press bottom-out the key a few times after installing it to get the O-ring fully fitted.
Overall, I'd completely recommend, especially for the price (I paid less than $5).
It depends on the type of switch you have whether or not you still hear the click, what adding these under the keys will do is dampen the noise made by the keys bottoming out. So it will virtually eliminate the clack but not the click if you say have Cherry MX Blues on your mechanical keyboard.
It is a nice modification to make in my opinion and these are the cheapest in price I've seen yet for this purpose.
I highly recommend them for mechanical keyboard mods!
There are other softer (50A) O-Rings also sold here on Amazon for not too much money which I've also purchased and used but honestly I could hear or feel any difference between the two. Big difference between no O-Ring and installing an O-Ring but it was very hard for me to differentiate between these really inexpensive 70A and the softer 50A.
So if you want to try the mechanical keyboard Mod and not pay too much for the O-Rings then i highly recommend these for you.
Good luck with your Mod!
Buyer beware: These also partially block out the backlighting on middle of the keycaps that the symbol(s) or part of the symbol(s) is printed in the middle of. These ARE opaque black o-rings, you know.
If that doesn't bother you much, though, definitely get these ones if you're looking for some good o-rings at a low price!
