A futuristic silhouette and unique display make the Midsize watch from The One a cutting-edge timepiece that catches the eye and demands a second look. Featuring a unique binary method, the Midsize watch indicates the time in hours and minutes by using blue LED lights instead of analog hands or digital displays. Standout features of this innovative watch are the clear dial and the square case and bezel made of translucent resin, a smooth, impact-resistant plastic that allows a view of the watch's inner-workings. Adding to the original look of this timepiece is the durable polyurethane band with embossed detailing and dark-gray metal buckle clasp. The Midsize watch is powered by quartz movement and is water resistant to 99 feet (30 M).
"My interest is in the future; as I'm going to be spending the rest of my life there."
--- Charles Kettering
In the year 1998 Anton Kraft had the idea of creating watches different from anything else ever seen: LED Displays and a new time reading system that will revolutionize the watch market. Despite the non-existence of technical resources or opportunities at the time, he registered for a legal protection of his ideas.
In 2004 Anton Kraft teamed up with the owners of a production facility who brought the technical knowledge required for this journey. Because of the initial time reading system being based on the IT code for all computers - the binary code - with the numbers 0 and 1, the brand name 01 THE ONE was born. In 2005 Time Technology Ltd. was founded and now operates the brand 01 THE ONE.
01 THE ONE is considered the leading name in design & fashion orientated watches, The brand has been a pioneer of innovation and style since the very beginning and now present in 20 countries world-wide.
Instead of following the trends on the watch market, 01 THE ONE’s objective is to create something unique and different.
Anton Kraft's idea was to create a watch line perfect for independent people who follow their own unique path in life and trend-setters who express their individuality by the way they dress. From the very beginning, Anton Kraft ignored style-dictators and consumer forecasts of the fashion or watch establishment.
The 01 THE ONE staff reflects this freedom: a cosmopolitan team that creates a family-like working atmosphere. 01 THE ONE 'people' and their working methods are unconventional, but productive – driven by the idea of creating an evolution.
And this is just the beginning...
Join the 01 THE ONE's evolution.

Now, some people might be put off by the fact that this watch only tells you hh:nn, with no date or seconds. You can get other models which give you this information, but no other model comes in this unique case (and you can't even find it on the manufacturer's website any more). Hardcore geeks might be put off by the fact that the watch has been made usable for muggles with the addition of powers of 2 in small print above each LED. It still takes some work to read the time this way, but it arguably makes the device "less pure". On the other hand, said geeks will be delighted to discover that there are two special minutes during the day when pressing the button lights none of the LEDs, yet the watch is fully functional. I apologize for spoiling this surprise for you if you have not encountered it yet.
The only complaint I have thus far is that the small band which retains the "tail" of the watch band has broken off after a few years of usage. Most likely this is due to deterioration caused by wrist sweat. If I could change anything about the watch, it would be to offer a different choice of bands. One could argue that neither leather nor metal bands would be appropriate for the style of this watch, but I would be curious to see how they look and feel anyway.
That said this is a nice time piece. It is both sophisticated looking and extremely sporty. The hours are on the first line and the minutes on the second. You add the lights across to figure the time. For example if the 1, 2, and 4 lights are on in the first row and the 32, 16, and 1 lights are illuminated in the second row it is 7:49. You get pretty good at adding fast after about a week but this isnt the easiest watch to use by any stretch. Still it does kind of tickle me every time I use it. If you are a big cribbage or cards player or just like numbers I think this is a sweet idea for a watch.
One downside is the whole "binary" name. This watch has nothing to do with 1s and 0s so if you are specifically looking for a binary watch, do not go for this. Time is told as stated above.
The plastic housing initially looked cheap, but after a month it remains pristine. I'm not incredibly careful with my stuff so let's say it at least appears to be tougher than it looks. Really the whole package is well made. Overall if this sort of watch appeals to you, I give it a strong rating. You'll dig it.
