The script was awful... who would believe a cop sees USGS badge, without the picture, and suddenly will become a police escort. 18 y/o's in the middle of trying to survive are focused on sex??? What's worse is instead of alluding to it, they show it in too much detail - no doubt so people will forget about the terrible writing. Of course there's an evil corporation that's the cause of it all.
Oh man! where do I start! Fantastic Movie! I would vote this as movie of the year! Great Direction, Great Acting, Great Special Effects! It looked so real! I will have to watch this move again and again! Great Family movie! Why did this not get better advertisement!!???? If you dont watch this movie then you are missing out one one of the most historical movies of all time! I was on the edge of my seat every second of this film! This is what most films should be like! Since Amazon took off my original review of it being the worst move of all time...I'm using reverse psychology to hopefully pursue you NOT to watch this movie! I have no idea why it was not published...It was my honest opinion of the movie as being poorly executed script wise. Hopefully this review wont get removed?
Horny teens go on camping trip. Major earthquake strikes LA basin. Divorcing parents unite to find their daughter. Greedy villain sacrifices himself for humanity. Divorcing parents find love again. Eccentric scientist makes corny closing remark. It got one bonus star for not suffocating viewers with political correctness crap.
I expected to see a low quality special effects movie with silly science, but I wasn't expecting a comedy. There was a lot of dry wit. The USGS building only had two employees due to budget cuts. When the ceiling collapsed during one of the minor quakes and the person there didn't answer his phone, the person said he was probably buried in paperwork. Reference to a shark hurricane as predicted by the one wacko scientist. And when they said to set off a quake that would destroy Long Beech, they said who's going to miss it? The scene with the teens in the vehicle at the destroyed bridge was really unnecessary and at times annoying at the terrible script and acting. And a later scene between the guy and gal was not at all appropriate to a movie that could be enjoyed by a larger audience. The ending was pretty stupid. Passable enough for a B-movie, but nothing great and easily forgotten.
No joke, the best acting in this movie has to go to the dog. I like disaster movies, but seeing as this movie was from 2014, you really expect more. Graphics of cracks in the earth forming were actually pretty good, but since there are fake reviews giving this movie 5 stars and are clearly bogus, I felt I had to lower my rating from 2 to 1 with the hope it will impact and reduce the overall rating. Scenes that should've been cut, shouldn't have been written into the script really, made the movie even worse. The movie nearly seemed like one of those farce movies from the late 70's, early 80's. You almost expect Lloyd Bridges to appear in a scene. I don't expect my opinion to change everyone's mind, but if I can keep just a handful of people from watching it, you can thank me for giving you back the time you would have wasted by watching it.
Mildly entertaining, but 3/4 of the way through I was clicking the 10 seconds forward button non-stop. Earthquake in Los Angles? Believable. But all the rest was ridiculous. Every character was dumb, they were constantly screaming at each other for no particular reason, and most male characters were verbally and physically abusive to everyone around them. So you were rooting for everyone to die. Made up a bunch of science stuff to sound impressive, so no one can follow the plot. So many situations that are improbable -- if they only had one of those scenes sure, but the entire movie was made of them. It's impossible to suspend disbelief every scene for something different. If you like Sharknado, you might like this. What's sad is that I think the movie is actually trying to be serious. Visual effects were decent at least.
This is a unique rendition of an old theme about greed and ecology. It has a nice story line of youthful relationships and an older separated couple learning to get along. It has some heroes and villains and lots of earthquakey stuff and some comic relief. Loved it.
