Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This is one of the more interesting entries in the bootleg series. For some reason this Wisconsin show was scheduled at an outdoor amphitheater in October, and it was an unseasonably cold 26 degrees. Stone, Mike, and Jeff are clearly having some trouble with their finger work, and Eddie complains about his ice-cold glass of red wine. But the band decides to overcome these slight difficulties with a gutsy and powerful performance, in order to keep themselves and the rabid crowd nice and toasty. After opening with the quiet and bluesy "Of the Girl," the boys launch into three especially pile-driving heavy rockers in a row ("Hail Hail," "Breakerfall," and "Whipping") before easing into the inevitable "Corduroy." Mike McCready seems sufficiently warmed up by the middle of the show to deliver blistering solos in "Even Flow" and "Porch." The band also unexpectedly pulls out the rarities "Faithful" and "Smile" to keep the crowd warm. In an unusual fashion, the show ends with a rollicking "Rearviewmirror." This song would usually end the first or second set before the band came out for the encore. Maybe they were planning to do another encore tonight (tellingly, this show is a little shorter than average) but they just decided it was too dang cold. No problem, as the crowd had already received an extra slammin' performance.

This was my first PJ boot, and is still my favorite, even compared to the Mansfield 2003 show, which is incredible also. East Troy set in stone my feeling that this band loves and is devoted to its fans, and visa versa. They played- and the fans waited and rocked- in 20 degree weather. The intensity makes your hair stand up. I only wish I had been there. I'd stand through a hurricane to see this band- they are great, and because their fans- myself included- are so wild about them, the mutual love makes the music even more personal and amazing. Their talent and integrity continue to amaze me, as does this album, after what must be 100+ listens. Fantastic boot.

I attended this experiment in hypothermia, and it was one of the most memorable concerts in my life. This CD is worth every penny to Pearl Jam fans, and is a good reminder of that intense night. If you weren't able to attend, you missed a very interesting show. The temperature was somewhere in the mid to low twenties, and there was a light, constant breeze. All this meant that the show was a little shorter than others. Fortunately, Pearl Jam made it up to their fans the next night in Chicago, which was indoors. All in all, if you need another live version of a lot of great songs, buy this album.

Like a lot of the people who already have reviewed this, I too was at this show (my 2nd PJ experience). I'm a huge PJ fan, and an owner of all the OSB's, along with numerous recordings from years past. I really have nothing to add that hasn't been said, other than it was a little disappointing to have RVM as the closer..end of first, second set (or like Seattle 2, the 5th song), but a little weak for a closer. However, it was cold and and the rest of the set was aggressive with Eddie even addressing those who get their hands on this bootleg. A must have for true PJ fans. Great to hear Porch!!

I must clarify at the outset two things. Number one, I am a die hard Pearl Jam fan. Number two, I was at this concert. The second matters because sometimes the atmosphere at a concert can affect your opinion of the concert, and those things may not translate onto a recording. According to reports, the local temp was 29 degrees when the concert ended. This contributed to the difficulty of guitar solos, and things of that nature.
However, the show was a unique one in my mind. I recognize this is not going to be in any unpartial top ten list, and if you're looking for just the best bootleg, you'd probably be better served with Seattle. However, if you're looking for great live versions of Porch, Whipping, Jeremy, and Smile, which are relatively rare in concert, this is the one to go with. Also, Pearl Jam standards such as Corduroy, Small Town, Black, and Rear View Mirror are oustanding performances.
While it might not have been the best show on the tour, it is without a doubt one of the most unique. This is a must buy for any collector.
