NOT abridged! This is the complete book. The original and the Best!

"The 10 Bushcraft Books" is, as the title suggests, literally all ten of Richard Graves' "Bushcraft Handbooks" bound together as a convenient single volume, perfect for slipping into your rucksack.

A true classic of the genre and out of print for more than forty years,
"The 10 Bushcraft Books" is back!

This edition is a perfect replica of the First Edition, with the same size, formatting, layout, page count and illustrations, but in a softcover format.

Unlike the poorly-OCR'd, abridged, censored and dumbed down modern US market reprint edition titled "Bushcraft : The Ultimate Guide to Survival in the Wilderness", this edition of Graves'
"The 10 Bushcraft Books" is the REAL DEAL, presented exactly as the author intended, with no deletions or omissions. It is the ONLY COMPLETE volume of Richard Graves' work available today. Remember: If it doesn't have the orange and black cover, it's incomplete and dumbed down. Don't waste your money buying anything else.

The term "Bushcraft" describes the activity of how to make use of natural materials found locally in any area. It includes many primitive skills, and to these are added modern skills necessary for survival such as time and direction and the provision of more modern camp comforts and equipment. The practice of bushcraft develops in an individual a remarkable ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment. Because this is so, the activity is a valuable counter to today's specialisation, and it is particularly significant in youth training work.

The author of
"The 10 Bushcraft Books", Richard Graves, is a member of the Irish literary family of that name. He is also the author of:
  • "Bushcraft: How to live in Jungle and Bush"
  • "Survival Hints", a pamphlet which was included in all Allied jungle survival kits in the Pacific during WWII
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Ropes and Cords"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Huts and Thatching"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Bush Campcraft"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Food and Water"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Fire Making"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Knots and Lashings"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Traps and Tracking"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Snares and Traps"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Travel and Gear"
  • The Bushcraft Handbook "Time and Direction"
...all authoritative works on bushcraft and the art of bush and jungle survival.

An enthusiastic bushwalker, skier and pioneer of white-water canoeing, Richard Graves foresaw how a knowledge of bushcraft could save lives in the Second World War. To achieve this end, he initiated and led the Australian Jungle Rescue Detachment, assigned to the American Far East Air Force. This detachment of 60 specially selected A.I.F. soldiers successfully effected more than 300 rescue missions, most of which were in enemy-held territory, without failure of a mission or loss of a man.

An essential preliminary for rescue is survival, and it was for this purpose that the notes for these books were written. These notes were later revised and prepared for a School in Bushcraft which was conducted for nearly 20 years.

As far as is known,
"The 10 Bushcraft Books" are unique. There is nothing quite like them, nor is any collection of bushcraft knowledge under one cover as comprehensive.

I found this sole used library copy of the 10 Books of Brushcraft. It helps to get an idea of what was a foundational work at the time. If you find one available it will be a single volume comprising the 10 books. The books are like standalone chapters.

Read this years ago, when it was first published. It is not an, end all, do all, book about "bushcraft", but it does come very close. This is not a book for the pretentious city boy "survivalists", or "bushcrafters", who do really stupid, idiotic fantasy things like batoning their knives in their back garden. It IS, a very good book for the conditions that are met in Australia, that can also be applied anywhere in the world outside of true Arctic, or true desert conditions. Most of the information is useful no matter what the conditions are. Finally, this book is loaded with practical information for people who will actually need it, and use it in the "Real World", and this is coming from someone who has actually been there, done that, and used it. Not because I wanted to, but because I had to out of real necessity.

The OG, I can Bushcraft like a boss because of this book!
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2017
The language is definitely not "American English" with terms like "bivvy" and "kit" - by which they don't mean a specific assembly of parts, but just in general call "equipment" as "kit". To us, a "kit" is a specific group of parts assembled for a specific purpose, not a generic term. Anyhoo.

A dated book, which you can see by the drawings. At first you will wonder why there's no mention of modern fabrics and materials that you would emply in the field (bush). That's because the book pre-dates them all. But - and this is key - in a bush survival scenario, you don't want to depend on a supply chain of kevlar thread or tyvek sheeting. This book is about stripping bark off a tree and making a rope that will hold 1000 pounds and similar feats. A true SHTF resource, that takes you back to stone/bronze age technology for making tools, conveniences, shelter and the lot.

Old School Bushcraft, but timeless. Great for reference for those interested in survival bushcraft. Not really an intro or teaching manual IMO, but there is a huge amount of material in this book and a real classic!

This book has a wealth of information when it comes to bushcraft. The only problem I find is some of the illustrations are poorly done so it's difficult to really get a sense of what the author is trying to convey and some of the information seems unnecessary. A lot of the info is just to broad. They show you how to build legitimate 20yr shelters and rope strong enough for 4 men. It's cool to see but I'll never need that information. Wish they would bring it down to more usable bushcraft techniques.

Besides all that it is a good book for getting into bushcraft. You will definitely learn something

Great book with lots of knowledge that has been forgotten in today’s bushcraft world. Also great to see that the tried an true ways in this book from the 60s(?) are still being practiced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 23, 2020
I genuinely don't like praising things too highly as what is good for one isn't always good for others. In this case though... I think this book is outstanding. You need to appreciate that it was written prior to WW2 as 10 separate pamphlets to allow crashed pilots a chance to survive and fight on in subtropical areas. It was written by an Australian so some of the English is strange but charming and seriously seriously knowledgeable and although the region isn't appropriate for me the techniques and knowledge is mostly comparable. I have a host of survival books by modern authors and celebrities but non come close to this. This is the book their teachers probably learned from!

Fabelhafte und gut illustrierte Darstellung. Gehört - obwohl eher für die Südhalbkugel, speziell Australien, geschrieben - zu meinen fünf besten und lehrreichsten Bushcraft-Büchern.

They're mostly cheap. Buy 'em, store 'em & keep them as survival insurance.

It would be great info (any info is extremely useful for the inexperienced, the easily stressed, and the poor memory people & just plain any emergency situation).

No comments on individual quality as purchased as above as it's a quick review on about 20 ebooks I purchased, eg. I'll read them if I ever need them. If the internet still exists when the SHTF I'll let you know.
