Review

"The authors, renowned medical specialists in the area of emotional health and psychology, present a systematic approach to help readers learn and integrate relevant tension-reduction techniques into their lives. Their ten-step system involves keeping a daily stress record, practicing deep muscle relaxation, learning to think realistically, and managing time effectively. As readers adopt the methods they can chart their progress and follow along with four case studies who suffer from an array of stress-related problems. Offering more than a variety of tips for random usage, this book will be appreciated by readers for providing structure within which transformation can take place." -Library Journal

"This book provides an easy-to-implement, step-by-step approach for managing stress that is backed by years of science. It's an exceptional guide from world-renowned researchers who bring the best available evidence to those in need." -Michelle G. Craske, PhD, Professor and Vice-Chair, Department of Psychology, UCLA

The book arrived today. I saw this book at a recent exhibition for four times the price that I got it on Amazon. It'll come in very handy when working with colleagues in West Africa to help them de-stress!

I found "10 Steps to Mastering Stress" very helpful in my working with veterans at the VA Clinic in Rock Hill, SC. As a mental health social worker, working with veterans with a variety of problems, I found these 10 steps useful, particularly in groups, where we have a range of different problems and personalities. I use a cognitive therapy approach, and these units use the techniques that help to get patients to examine their thoughts about activating events, that influence their emotions. I particularly like the handouts at the end of each chapter,( that I found on the Internet,) where the patient has a homework assignment of recording predictions, thoughts, feelings, and emotions. These out-of-session assignments help extend therapy time, and help the patient become more aware of his or her behavior. I am using my husband's account to post this comment, as he bought this book for me. Thank you so much.
Betty Ann Surratt.
