This book and its subsequent editions served as one of the handbooks of traditional interior design in America from the book's introduction in the late 50s though the mid 70s when a new generation of more opulent, glossier decorating books started becoming popular. The rooms are from historic houses as well as newer ones and includes some houses that are museums. In addition to a photograph, some in color but mostly black & white, there is sometimes a second view of the room as well as a welcome exterior view of the house in some instances. Although stiff curtains and plain carpets can occassionally give away the date of the photo, there are a surprising number of rooms that can still provide inspiration after fifty years -- the true test of classic design. This book is a recommended reference for all interested in the history of interior design.

Black and white pictures through out book. This is of rooms from the 60's and 70's and it was quite dated.

The book was as advertised. The cover and inside of the book were both in great shape and it was shipped to me in a timely manner. I would order from these people again.
