What will be your mode of transportation and/or type of shelter? What essentials must you take along? How will you keep your party fed? Will you travel to see sights, or to reach a destination? What type of campsites might you use? These are the types of things that are addressed. Don’t forget some type of system for handling human waste… there’s a bit of helpful philosophy here, relating to “cost” vs benefit, and how easily you probably got over changing diapers.
The author refers to her own experiences, and her preference to keep travels centered around outdoor activities. She puts some focus on keeping children engaged, both in camp, and on the road.
I think a few points were missed in considering Class B motor homes or camper vans, versus larger Class A or C motor homes that are the author's real focus. The author quickly dismissed the van-sized units, because they would not accommodate a number of children -- to sleep an entire family. While she had briefly noted that tent camping would be appropriate for some families, she overlooked potential use of van units as transportation for tenting families. In such use, gas savings with a recent model Class B or camper van might be substantial, over a Class A or C.
The author references complete trip guides for six routes in the western states, which are included when THIS book is purchased at her website. I guess that’s the bonus version? Or, the ebook I got from Amazon is the limited version, perhaps.
