This is one of the first books about quilting that I purchased. I've gone through it dozens of times and count it as one of the most fascinating books in my collection of quilting books. Yes, there are actually 1001 different patchwork squares pictured in the book. There's also an index in the back telling you what page each design is on. Many of the names and designs are quite unique. For instance, Ombre, Grandmother's Cross, Eagle, Alaska Homestead, Dutch Waterways, Jack's Blocks, Easy Do, Sunny Lanes, Frame, Arrowheads, Springfield and Battle of the Alamo are just a few of the many styles that got my attention.

Most of the content in the book are the blocks pictured. Starting with one and two patch designs going up the ladder to nine patch, hexagrams, circles, diamonds and stars. There are also small chapters on Determining Quilt Size, Fabric Requirements, Quilting and Assembling the Quilt Top.

I believe that any patchwork quilter would love using this book. It's really a great book!

This is a good book of quilt blocks. There are several that I have never seen before and there are several that I would like like to make. This book does not give you the pattern nor does it tell about the quilt block. It just shows the picture of a quilt block and gives you the name. It would make a good resourse book but you would have to get the pattern somewhere else.

A friend loaned me her copy of this book and I just had to have one. This is an excellent source of various quilt blocks from simple to more complex. I will be using this as an "encyclopedia" for many years to come.

The book itself might be "old" but the 1001 quilt blocks are timeless. I own dozens and dozens of recently published quilt books and I thought I saw them all. But this book totally simplifies each block in a way others do not. This book pretty much eliminates the need for other books and patterns. I would highly recommend adding it to a quilter's collection. It's a wonderful source of inspiration. I wish I had found it sooner.

How do I make how to book reviews unique when they all need to say the same thing? I won't try. This is a good book which covers the subject well. If you like good books which cover the subject well, then try this one.
