So the first thing I did was hop on Amazon to find an adapter. The first one I saw was around $40! Once I saw this one I thought it would be terrible because of the price, boy was I wrong! I just got this in the mail today, popped in the mini driver cd, plugged the adapter in and viola, the drivers loaded.
The software it comes with isn't pretty to look at but it's so much better than the one that comes with windows. It took me around 10 minutes to figure out what was what but once I figured that out I was good to go.
Once problem I had was with my wireless network and bluetooth running at the same time. If I want to transfer a ringtone from my pc to my phone I need to turn off my wireless (which isn't a big deal). That, so far, is the only problem but being that this was less than $5 and that is the only problem, I really don't care. It works great!
Before sending it back, I decided to try it on my old XP machine. It worked just fine with the drivers that were already on it. I later did a system recovery, which reinstalled XP with no service packs, and apparently it deleted the driver that was needed. But then I installed the BlueSoleil software that came with it, and once again had no problem using it.
I'm not sure what's going on with my Vista machine, but at least it will work with the other one. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the description that's worth noting: The software that comes with it is on a mini-CD-ROM. I couldn't use it on my new computer, but was able to put the files on a thumb drive using my old computer and install it that way. But if you don't have a drive that will play mini-CD-ROMS, I guess you're out of luck as far as the software goes.
Now the Good. I really cant say enough about the reliability of this device for a few bucks. If you have software than pick this up but dont expect to get anything more than the device itself. Running windows 7 64 bit it installed with no need to obtain drivers. Gotta love 7.
Im using bluesoliel 6 and its perfect for all my file transfers.
For the person who said it didnt work with blackberry, thats quite common for BB have issues. And the person who said it doesnt work with there headset, well all I can say is duh. Its not intended to be used to make phone calls. Its for file transfers.
I gave it 4 stars because of the distance issue. but other than that for 2 bucks its awesome. I also play the Wii with it lol. Synced up like a charm
P.S. If the above didn't work, you might need to install Visual C++ 2010 and Directx
Now that my set-up has changed and I'm 25m or so away with a wall between me and the dongle, I'm having to shop around for a new one. It's just not quite powerful enough to overcome the wall and range to provide a stable connection for a game controller.
the 1 device that shows up is BlueTooth USB
the 2 device is bluetooth PAN network adapter
the 3 device is its also showing up in my sound & video controllers as bluetooth AV audio, bluetooth SCO audio
the 4 device is its in my Ports (COM & LPT)
showing up as bluetooth serial port from port 4 through port 12
the 5 device i,m not sure if its from the bluetooth adapter or not but its showing up as microsoft virtual WiFi miniport adapter.
but from sort of LUCK i,v got it working on WINDOWS 7 now this is ODD because i installed the drivers from the disc it came with and installed the software that was on the disc i could not get into the configuration to do anything so i tryed again with BETTER success then the first time but anyway its runing just fine on WINDOWS 7.
