This book is okay but does not really deal with the realities of the 21st century.
If you're looking for a book that faces the realities and challenges of today then you should read Untapped Wealth Discovered by Jeff Marquis and Kerry Harrison. This book shows you how to find those businesses that can survive and prosper in our economy. It's a book that pays special attentions to the needs and goals of women.
Take my advice, ladies, do not buy this book. There are a lot of the generic home-based business books; with the careers outlined in them, you might actually have the opportunity to make a great home business.
1. The author lists pathways to get started pronto in the business: start-up costs and financing sources, pricing guidelines, marketing and advertising methods and tips, essential equipment needed, any recommended training/experience/skills, income potential, helpful tips/ideas, and books/videos/etc for more information.
2. Looking at the listings and the necessary steps to make a career happen, I got a good clear picture right away about what I would NOT spend any time or money doing. So in this way, I saved myself 101 career mistakes.
1. The computer-based business listings needs to expand. Not much selection. You can probably get more from doing the research yourself. For example, I just did a search and found 50+ home-based computer-based jobs on Home Business magazine's website.
If you are looking for more of an updated version with plenty of computer-based entrepreneurship, you are better off with Georganne Fiumara's How To Start Home Based Business To Become Work At Home Mom
However, most potential entreprenuers already know what type of business they want, based on personal experience, interests, level of education, etc. This book is in no way helpful for those who fall into this category, because there is so little information on how to start up that business.
Each chapter is a brief overview of a type of home-based business. There were only two chapters that drew my eye, again based on personal experience and interest. After reading that I could be a home-based bookkeeper or a home-based interior decorator (information I already knew), I put the book away forever. A waste of time and money.
This is NOT a detailed informative reference for actual start-up, and as such is not very helpful. "Everything you need to know about getting started on the road to success" will be found in other books.
