This is what the editors of Faithgirlz and Girls' Life magazine showed readers in 101 Ways to Have Fun: Things You Can Do With Friends Anytime.
Printed in full color from front cover up to the last page and further enlivened by topnotch layouting, 101 Ways to Have Fun is a compilation of fun, creative, and thoughtful activities that a girl can do alone, with a bestfriend, or with her group of friends.
It is divided into nine chapters my favorites being Chapter 4: Mini Makeovers (especially the DIY the Ultimate Bath Bomb) and Chapter 7: Fun Ways to Make $ Fast (with tips and tricks on how to become a teacher and starting a dog walking business). These activities can be done from 10 minutes to a whole afternoon (or whole night for sleepovers) and they're easy to do and follow.
Every girl or young lady can find inspiration from this book for me time or a fun afternoon with the BFFs.
I looked at this book from two angles: as a girl and as a mother.
First, as a girl... Oh yes, I love to do fun things especially during the few hours I have for myself when the kids are asleep or are in the Playcare or when their Dad declares he's game to change diapers, cooking, and playing with our three mutants. I have picked up a couple of ideas from this book for me time. I especially love writing positive notes on post-its and then inserting them in books/planners/journals or posting them anywhere in the house or in the car to remind me that life is great even when challenges come my way.
Chapter 4 has a wealth of recipes on homemade scrubs, rosewater iced tea, peppermint pattie soap, and hair mask. The ingredients are easy to find and the steps can be followed even by a six years old (with adult supervision of course).
As a mother to Antoinette (who's turning three in July), I'm excited to do a lot of things from this book with my unica hija. We already love spending time together in the bath, in putting make up, and doing mani-pedi so this book complements what we're already doing.
This book also gives suggestions on how girls can earn money utilizing their knowledge and skills. Do you love crafts? The editor suggest you craft greeting cards. Are you a techie? The editors suggest some tips on how you can make use of those skills to help people and earn on the side.
Best of all, these activities are inexpensive.
What I love most about this book is its emphasis on clean fun; that girls can have fun without alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs. It shows that nice girls can have fun without giving up their values and beliefs.
It is possible to have clean fun and it doesn't have to be boring.
This book tells you that.
Ladies and moms, get this book.
It's really F-U-N!

This book is packed full of fun and creative activities and ideas that are designed to boost creativity, activity, and friendship in the day and life of teen girls. In this book, ideas are shared which inspire teen girls to tap into their creative side and explore all the possibilities that are found there. To help the creative process along, this book shares DIY activities, contests, games, fashion advice, recipes, shows, exercise advice, and how to make a quick buck. The focus of this book is to embrace ones uniqueness through fun and creatives activities for one to do on their own or with their best friend or with a group of friends.
This book also impresses the importance of friendship and how to invest in one's friends through having fun together and making memories that will last a lifetime. Some of the other areas in which this book highlights is: how to help others (such as becoming a volunteer or taking classes such as CPR training to learn how to help people even in hard situations), how to foster a heart of gratitude, how to be a positive thinker, and how to encourage others.
Overall, this book shares some really great ideas and advice that will keep teen girls positive and having fun. A downside, however, is that this book does promote consumerism, the use of makeup as a way to make one beautiful, and lacks sharing the importance of modesty. This book is for tweens and teens ages 12-17.
I give this book 3 out of 5 for its great ideas but unfortunate promotion of vanity.
Disclosure: I have received a reviewer copy and/or payment in exchange for an honest review of the product mentioned in this post.
Because 101 Ways to Have Fun is a "tween" book, I am going to hand this over to my daughter for the review:
This book is a great way to have fun when you're bored. It contains DIY projects, fun snacks, and nail ideas. It gives you things to do by yourself, things to do with friends, ways to make money, and ideas on how to throw a party. This books seems like the activities need to be planned, rather than pulling out this book and looking for things to do right away.
