I'm not sure what the metal piece is on the back is but I use it to widen my cut on models to slot poster board into foam board.
I saw other reviews, some about the locking knob and some about the blade change.
In my opinion there is definitely a room for improvement in the blade change mechanism.
It's not terrible or something, I've just seen better/easier solutions out there and while on that
subject, I would like them to add the feature where you can store few more blades under the
working one, so once it is done, the new one pops up to replace the old one, thus, avoiding the
whole subject of replacing the blade until you've used 5-8 blades (which could take a long time).
I've seen solutions like this, never on a $10 knife though.
As for the locking mechanism, I think they really hit the nail with this one, it happens automatically
as the knob is spring loaded and you never have to think about it.
My advise, if you're an occasional user who's not relying on the knife for heavy duty work, buy it and
you won't regret it.
If you're a pro user, there are other solutions out there that are sturdier and more efficient, but not for $10.
I know a pro who just buy few of those instead of one expensive knife, I guess this is another way to go about it.
I've also used the "pry" end to take electronic shells apart (change batteries), scrape glue, pull up tape and remove large staples.
