I like this utility knife, but my husband doesn't. He prefers the one that has the little "locking wheel" mechanism on the side. I prefer this. I like that I can close it and open it with one hand, and that I can do it right away. I hate having utility knives around open all the time. My husband leaves them around (because who wants to bother with the locking and unlocking all the time!), so that is why I bought these in the first place, but unfortunately they didn't take with him. He says that his hand is big and that he pushes the button automatically as well when he uses it and so the blades slides too as he cuts. It has not happened to me. I guess it is just a matter of preference. I still give it 5* since I really like them, and I find them convenient to use, and I am glad I got 2 of them!

After reading the other review I had to put in my two cents. I use this knife all day while working and it is the best by far. Comfortable and that little hook at the end is very useful. It is not true that the blade change is impossible or difficult, actually it couldn't be easier. You simply slide the thumb lever out of the back of the knife and put your new blade on. Slide it back in and you are good to go.

I've used this blade for my design projects for years, it cuts through materials like butter. It's really study and has a strong metal frame. It has a nice rubber grip and feels comfortable to hold. Sliding the blade up and down is straight forward and it requires some pressure to get the blade off.
I'm not sure what the metal piece is on the back is but I use it to widen my cut on models to slot poster board into foam board.

For $10 this is definitely a great purchase! This knife does everything it supposed to.
I saw other reviews, some about the locking knob and some about the blade change.

In my opinion there is definitely a room for improvement in the blade change mechanism.
It's not terrible or something, I've just seen better/easier solutions out there and while on that
subject, I would like them to add the feature where you can store few more blades under the
working one, so once it is done, the new one pops up to replace the old one, thus, avoiding the
whole subject of replacing the blade until you've used 5-8 blades (which could take a long time).

I've seen solutions like this, never on a $10 knife though.

As for the locking mechanism, I think they really hit the nail with this one, it happens automatically
as the knob is spring loaded and you never have to think about it.

My advise, if you're an occasional user who's not relying on the knife for heavy duty work, buy it and
you won't regret it.

If you're a pro user, there are other solutions out there that are sturdier and more efficient, but not for $10.
I know a pro who just buy few of those instead of one expensive knife, I guess this is another way to go about it.

I didn't get this knife here, but paid way more for one at a paint supply company. I discovered the Olfa line of knives around 2009. I was tired of utility knives that opened in my work pants pocket, were bulky and hard to load. Don't feel guilty at spending a few bucks on this knife, you won't regret it. The blade looking back end is great for opening paint cans, tucking carpet into corners - think of it as a small pry bar. The knife is tough, none of my prying has loosened up the blade in about 5 years of use. It also serves as a screwdriver in a pinch. Real quality, not what I had expected from a snap blade knife. And it if fast to open - zip the ratchet slide forward to open, zip to close and it stays where you slide it to. Very positive action. And once again, I'd like to say it never has opened in my pocket. Much faster than the round knob screw type actions.

I tried several of these in different brands. Some of the cheaper ones are just dangerous with there locking device failing and causing the blade to not lock in place. Also some are all almost entirely plastic except blade and locking clip. This model made by Olfa is simply exceptional. Amazing how excited you can get over a retractable knife. The metal housing thats embedded down the entire center of the unit making it ridged. The non-slip gripping material. Theres no storage of blades in the unit and no plastic cap at the end to loose or come detached all the time. No stupid locking nut at the tip of the housing to interfere with your work. The locking mechanism on this model has not failed on me yet. This is simply the best model I have ever used. Bought first one at a Sherman Williams store and paid around 16.00 for it. I was so impressed with it that a had to have a back up in case I lost or miss placed this one. Purchased my second one on Amazon for about 10.00 dollars. Thanks Olfa and Thanks Amazon.

This really is the best utility knife ever. Buy it NOW. Size, heft, quality of fit and finish, ease of use and SUPER SHARP BLADES means the main concern you'll have is forming the habit of retracting the blade as soon as you've done the cut. Don't just toss this into the junk drawer without retracting that samurai blade. Even if you don't get cut, everything it touches will be sliced and diced. :D

I've also used the "pry" end to take electronic shells apart (change batteries), scrape glue, pull up tape and remove large staples.
