This lecture was videotaped with six cameras at two locations: March 30, 2006, at Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, and the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on April 3. Griffin's stellar talk is generously illustrated with many graphics and video clips. The talk opened thus: Although I am a philosopher of religion and theologian, I have spent most of my time during the past three years on 9/11---studying it, writing about it, and speaking about it. In this lecture, I will try to make clear why I believe this issue worthy of so much time and energy. I will do this in terms of the distinction between myth and reality. Griffin continues: Given the role the official account of 9/11 has played and continues to play, the most important question before our country today is whether this account…is a myth in the pejorative sense--that is, whether it is simply false. Griffin then outlines and detailed nine of the many myths in the official story of the 9/11 attacks that are demonstrably false. He concludes: The official story of 9/11, serving as a national religious Myth, has been used to justify two wars, which have caused many tens of thousands of deaths; to start a more general war on Islam, in which Muslims are considered guilty until proven innocent; to annul and violate civil rights; and to increase our military spending, which was already greater than that of the rest of the world combined, by hundreds of billions of dollars, partly so that weapons can be put into space.

When I first saw the first plane hit the tower, I thought, how did that plane get so low without someone not realizing it was too low? I thought they were trained to notice those things? Then when the 2nd tower hit, I thought something is very wrong. As the reports came out, they were becoming more and more ridiculous. I thought our military was more alert about these things. Too many things did not add up. As time went by I realized that even if it were true, there would be nothing "we the people" could do about it. Our government has to much control over this our country to allow "we the people" to investigate this. What could we really do? NOTHING. We are brain washed. Most of all, we do not have the control over such matters. The government controls what we hear, what we eat, how we earn, and so many other things we rely on to survive in this country. We only hear what they want us to hear. I have seen such a big change in our country. We are fighting more wars. For what? We are finding out that there are many poisons in our food. We thought the FDA had a handle on that. I just found out that they only have 23 employees at the FDA. I just found out that there is a person who wants to buy out all the news companies. He was denied but then I found out that he owns many of them but is represented under different names. Our government has many tactics that they use to get us to believe that what they are saying and doing is for the good of the people. I can't see what good they have done for the people. The cost of living is way up, jobs are down, education is going to the dogs. There is gentrification going on. They are trying to do away with SSI. Even our voting is being tampered with. Someone found boxes of uncounted ballots in an attic once during an election. I can't remember which election but that's just an example of what is going on with our election process. There are too many things failing in this country. Too many things that are causing the average working man to maintain more than one job to raise a family in this country. Prices keep going up and salaries are not covering the cost of living. More and more younger people are being arrested and thrown into adult prisons. Racism is worse than ever. We don't go around hanging people but now our country knows how to do things subtly. Most of all our politicians get other people to do their dirty work. They outsource. Corporations now hire outside the country so they don't have to pay medical or high salaries. Oh and medical is getting so bad. A poor person could not pay what this country is asking people to pay to be well. Social medicine works well in Germany, why can't it work here? People do not pay for medical there. We are at the mercy of our government and there is nothing we could do about it. When the police can get away with shooting an unarmed man when they think they should or could, that is a sign of bigger things to come. We are in a sad state of affairs here my friend.

It's always easy to question events, particularly chronologies that conflict, or questioning why certain things did not happen. As this lecture progresses, some valid questions are raised about the slow or utter lack of response to events as they unfolded. There are two glaring problems with this presentation, which is predicated on the notion that anything the government says is a lie, and anything the government does is a false flag in the interest of American Imperialism. Much focuses on debunking the official 9/11 report from the Bush administration, which granted, seems like a conflict of interest. This presentation really goes off the rails toward the end with two topics: 1) the outlandish insinuation that these planes could not have been piloted by Islamic amateurs because the maneuvers were too difficult, and 2) that the buildings collapsed like controlled demolition with TNT and therefor, since Bush's brother was supposedly in charge of security at the Twin Towers, there was enough time on off hours for each floor to be rigged for detonations that actually made the buildings --including 7 World Trade Center--collapse. He seriously proposes that this explains why everything was pulverized into fine dust, while most of us credulous fools thought that the collapse of a quarter mile high building actuated by the force of gravity was adequate. Regarding Islamist hijackers not guiding the planes --which must have been a decoy for the TNT demolition that took weeks to rig- he offers no suggestion as to who did fly the planes into the buildings. Air Force Kama Kasi volunteers? Remote control? He also ignores the heroic actions of the passengers on Flight 93, whose attack on the hijackers to divert the plane from hitting the Capitol was well documented in numerous phone conversations and messages with loved ones on the ground. In fact, he never mentions Flight 93 at all. During the question and answer period, he disputes the presence of Barbara Olson on Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon. She was killed, and we can assume, had a funeral and left a grieving widower behind. Here, you can plainly see that he lost the audience and all credibility. The lecture ends with wild and raucous applause and a partial standing ovation that seemed to come from a personal claque that he brings along to his lectures. This is a curiosity, for students of humbug and professors teaching their students to apply critical thinking.

I found this presentation to be clear. Rational. Meticulous. This speaker simply reiterated what anyone with common sense, education, and understands physics would ask.

The first thing that popped into my mind, when I watched the second plane crash into the remaining tower was,"where are the fighter jets???" It was preposterous to me that any large plane, not on a proper approach to either La Guardia or JFK, would be allowed to approach NYC. Any pilot even of small planes, knows this. I am one of them.

Bush's vacuous face, sitting in a classroom, after 2 planes crashed, was unbelievable. I found it completely unbelievable that the Secret Service would not have rushed him out, to an undisclosed location. IF this was unexpected.

Perhaps the most unbelievable, that Dr Griffin pointed out:

How on earth, short of controlled implosion could there be free fall destruction of these 2 giant towers? Anyone with a science background would laugh at the story proposed by the government.

Finally: I always ask: who benefited from this, in the short term and long term? These were clearly detailed by Dr Griffin.

As a patriotic American, questioning the intention of corrupt government officials and the Military-Industrial-Complex , which President Eisenhower asked his generation of Americans, and us (future generation) ...is in Itself a patriotic thing to do. In America we ask tough questions of our government, our media. We are not in Venezuela, Colombia, China, or Singapore. not yet.

To those who dont like this: believe what you wish. But do NOT deny those of us who like to question, who like to get believable answers, the right to do so. We ask these questions not just for ourselves, but you, our fellow Americans.
