Product Description

This is an 18 inch x 24 inch x 0.12 inch see-through acrylic mirror. It can be used to make a smart mirror, an infinity mirror, used for surveillance, for theatrical applications, or whatever else you can think of. This kind of mirror is also known as a two-way mirror or sometimes as a one-way mirror. It is made of acrylic which is naturally shatter resistant, making a safer alternative to glass. Note: Make sure you peel off the protective plastic covering from both sides before use.

FAQ:1. What is a two-way mirror?
A two-way mirror is coated with a thin, almost-transparent layer of metal. The result is a mirrored surface that reflects some light and is penetrated by the rest. Light always passes equally in both directions. However, when one side is brightly lit and the other is dark, the darker side becomes difficult to see from the brightly lit side because it is masked by the brighter reflection of the lit side.

2. How do you cut it?
The acrylic can be cut, but be careful not to damage it. I recommend leaving the protective covering on the mirror until you finish cutting and even then you may still damage the mirror in the process. You can use a plexiglass cutting tool, a razor blade, a dremmel, or a laser cutter. For a plexiglass cutting tool or a razor blade, use a straight edge and do 6-10 passes cutting all the way to the edge of the acrylic.Finally, please pay attention to care instructions on the information label attached to the mirror.

3. How do you clean it safely?
The reflective side doesn't have a protective coating, so avoid wiping it with anything if possible. To decrease the need to clean the reflective side, face the non-reflective side outward. To clean the non-reflective side, use a completely clean microfiber cloth together with Zeiss 50% isopropyl alcohol. Or, if you are able to, an even better option is Novus 1 Plastic Clean & Shine together with Novus Polish Mates or Kimwipes.

I ordered the thinner version for my smart mirror project and it was delivered broken. I was sent a replacement and that too was also broken. After 3 weeks I got my refund and decided to buy the thicker version to avoid more time wasted with amazon support. Finally it was delivered in one piece but does not look like a mirror. It does it's job in showing a reflection but it gives off a wavy, fun house mirror effect and has numerous imperfections up close. Again, it gets the job done, but for $50, there are without a doubt better products out there for less.

I used it for a Raspberry Pi MagicMirror. It works pretty well, the reflection is only slightly distorted with this 3mm version. I cannot image the "fun-house" effect of the 1mm would have. I would stay away from the 1mm. It definitely beats buying real glass which would have been 3-5x more in cost.

First time we cleaned it with water and a scott towel it scratched in one corner now the thing is ruined and ruined my cabinet door. Must be a defect in the material. but I guess its just too late to return it or get a replacement. At that price it should have been a better quality.
