About the Author
12 Days of Pumpkin was created by Charlene Heiss and Thomas E. Uharriet Charlene Heiss taught special education for 45 years, teaching all grades from Kindergarten through university levels, in California, Washington, and Kansas. For several years, she used a prototype of this book, with simple line drawings, to teach her students to read as they cheerfully sang along. Soon after her retirement, she began drawing a colored version. Her son, Thomas E. Uharriet, added the digital imaging and other enhancements. Charlene now lives in Moreno Valley, California. Currently, she and her husband, John E. Heiss, teach afternoon adult classes of English as a second language. Charlene loves her family, and especially enjoys spending time with John, her soul-mate. Together, they enjoy traveling, photography, writing, music, and art. Charlene is developing a reading program. Thomas E. Uharriet also taught special education and English as a second language for a few years. Most of his teaching, however, was high school English. Now, his primary occupation is writing books. His greatest writing success thus far is Billy’s Back! (told from the perspective of the man who replaced Paul McCartney when Paul died in 1966). Tom, the father of five sons, currently lives in Utah to be close to his children there. He looks forward to his youngest children reading this book to him. When he is not chasing pumpkins, Tom also enjoys meditation, Yoga, philosophy, art, travel, and public speaking.
