This is a fine cd of her singles from her various hard to find albums recorded between 1978-1985. I love all the songs especially "Rough Diamond", "You Can", "On Fire" and "I'm No Angel". Once you start playing this CD, you will exprience dancing bliss! Here are the tracklistings:
1. Rough Diamond 6:15
2. Cherchez Pas 5:49
3. On Fire 5:43
4. Ecstasy 5:58
5. I'm No Angel 6:39
6. Cheri 4:48
7. Playing for Time 7:20
8. You Can 6:56
9. Forbidden Love 5:02
10. You and I 4:12
11. Fire in My Heart 4:11
12. Megamix 7:04

A true compilation of the works by Madleen Kane -- and all the songs are in extended form. I have been searching a long time for a CD that had any Madleen Kane song on it. Now, to find all her hits on one CD was a great find. I especially love the first song on the CD (also her first single), "Rough Diamond". However, in my opinion, the best songs all appeared on her, "Cheri" album from 1979. This CD has 3 titles from that album: the haunting, sensual, "Forbiddon Love", the bouncy, full-of-percussion, "Cheri", and the sweet, sultry,"You and I" (a great final dance of the evening song). The only disappointment of this CD was that they separated the 2 songs, "Forbiddon Love" and "Cheri". When it was first released as a 12" Dance single in 1979, the 2 songs were a suite with a third song which lasted for about 13 minutes. It would have been perfect if the song was left intact rather than chopped into 2 songs. There are also a few songs on the CD which were written by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte (remember, they were the creative force behind Donna Summer). "Fire in My Heart" and "Playing for Time" are uptempo, synth driven songs in the Moroder fashion. They were huge dance hits in 1981. The third Moroder/Bellotte song on the CD, "You Can" reminds me a lot of Moroder/Bellotte's "Flashdance" by Irene Cara. Written in similar style, I do not understand why this song was not a commercial hit other than on the dance floor. All in all, this CD is great for any person who longs to relive the days of disco.

I had first become aware of Madleen Kane in 1981 when she performed on Solid Gold doing "You Can". I had never seen her before and thought she was beautiful(I was 11 at the time) and was curious about her and the song. I bought the 45 and in the mid 90's finally found a 12" vinyl of the song. The remix on the 12" and the 1981 Billboard Top Dance Hits cd was around 5:35 and the version on this collection of hits is 6:56 with a different beginning and end parts. I love the new version. I also read a couple of books about the disco era and most were praising her music as smart and different than most disco. I think she is in the same boat as Grace Jones and Linda Clifford in that they did great work but it never really crossed over to the POP charts. The best songs are the NRG mid 80's "I'm No Angel" and "Ecsatsy" written by Ian Anthony Stephans(who did High Energy for Evelyn Thomas) and Paul Parker - a great dancer singer himself. I thought the disco records of "Rough Diamond" and "CherChez Pas " were incredible. But "Playing For Time" and of course "You Can" still shimmer after 20 some years. These were produced by Giorgio Moroder and show the influence of his work with Blondie on "Call Me"- producing a more rock/dance vibe on these classics. You can see that Madleen looks like a Bond girl- she was a supermodel in the 70's/80's but the music is what I bought this cd for and it doesn't disappoint at all. Great disco and nrg music.

I bought this CD with the fond memory of the song Forbidden Love. I put it in my CD drive this morning and it has been playing continuously all day. The songs are great. My new favorites are I'm No Angel, You Can and Playing For Time. The sound is very dated 1970's, but it is a happy sound and there are tracks written and produced by Giorgio Moroder that make this collection very worth while. Now if they could put out an anthology of all the work written and produced by Giorgio Moroder for various artists, I would be in HEAVEN.

When this arrived and I saw ALL the songs were the extended versions, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Thanks to the producers for, "doing the right thing" and giving us these versions instead of those stupid 7" versions, found on other compilations. Many of these types of compilations are not from master tapes (so beware), fortuantely... this one IS from master tapes, making it even more appreciated. They only had 5 stars available, but it deserves 6! - jw

I remember listening to internet radio some years ago, & hearing "You Can" from Madleen Kane for the 1st time & feel in love with her sexy & seductive voice.

This is a greatest hits collection featuring songs from the 5 albums she did from 1978-1985. They showed the Swedish-born former model turned singer's evolution from straight disco ("Rough Diamond", "Cherie" & the wonderful ballad "You & I"), to post-disco (the Giorgio Moroder produced "Playing For Time" "Fire in My Heart, & the previously mentioned "You Can"), & finally to Hi-NRG ("On Fire", "Ecstacy", & "I'm No Angel". The closer is an interesting 7 minute megamix of songs featured in this collection. Ms. Kane made some interesting disco & Hi-NRG recordings, but it seems she grew tired of the music biz & walked away from it after 1985. (As of the posting of this review, she's living a quiet life in her home country of Sweden.)

That said, fans of the singer or of disco & 1980s dance music will enjoy this CD, which I'm surprised is still in print when I bought it as this type of music is often very hard to find in America.
