This slim volume is a very nice collection of real life experiences and thoughts from a urban public school teacher. The author has a gentle, conversational style that makes reading a pleasure but with enough philosophical points thrown in that the deep thinkers among us will not be bored. Most chapters are relatively brief and will stand alone if your reading periods are intermittent, but I found myself drawn from story to story, building up a more comprehensive idea of his experiences. My favorite? The last chapter, itself titled "13 Ways of Going on a Field Trip" is both the longest, and in my opinion, the best crafted part of the book. Read it first if you wish, but honestly, the earlier foreshadows of its topics may make you better off by saving it for last.
