1.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat good antenna, I bought two, but one broke.
By Tom Urbaniak on February 7, 2020
Updated 1 star review 1/2/21: This antenna didn't last 1 year. Don't get me wrong, it worked great all summer. I was very nice to it, this car doesn't go out on trails or anything, it goes back and forth to work on smooth city streets. The antenna worked fine all summer, then when winter came, the first big snow we had, I bumped it with my snow brush. Not even hard, I was shocked when the thing broke off. Looks like it's not made of a good solid metal, but instead it looks like what's known as pot-metal. I can't believe such a structural piece as the mounting bracket, was made from pot-metal. I'm looking into a manufacturer warranty now.

I bought two of these, the other one is still holding up, however that car hardly gets driven anymore.

It may work fine for you, or it may fail right away. Your choice, buyer beware.

Old 5 star review 2/20/20:
Installed this on my 04 Buick. I was gonna put it in place of the old onstar antenna, but upon closer inspection of the instructions, the inside module has to be placed in a specific orientation, with the TNC on the right. So I put it on the other side of the window, so the coax could be easily hidden in the trim.

It's all set up and working great. I was able to avoid the defrost lines, but decided to go through the black frosted shade lines because the old onstar antenna went through them just fine. And it works!
Lowest SWR is 1.13:1 on 2m. The 70 is a little worse, about 2:1+ on everything lower than 445MHZ, but drops steeply when you get closer to 450MHz+. Could be worse, I've still gotten into a 70cm repeater 15 miles away on flat ground, it was crystal clear, and I haven't tested it further yet. I'll try to upload a picture of the 70cm SWR graph, I forget to take one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straightforward Installation, Works Well
By T. Rohlfing on January 12, 2021
Installation -- I had never tried a thru-the-glass antenna feed before, and was a little skeptical. With my previous car I was able to use a trunk lid mount, and there was enough give in the rubber window insulation to get a coax through. But with my Camry it just didn't look like that would work with my trunk mount adapter, without damaging the car when opening the trunk. Hence the thru-the-glass mount. Before purchasing, I watched a couple of videos others had posted about the installation process, which were helpful. I followed the advice of one poster who suggested using some silicone sealant about the edges of the external glass surface, masking it with tape so it looks decent. I don't know if the sealant was necessary or not, but it looks good, and seems pretty solid. I'll know in a year or two if it might have helped keep the window adhesive strong. The supplied coax was plenty long to snake the cable down next to the rear seat back, and under the car's carpet to the car's center console, where my dual band radio is located. The antenna ended up on a bit of a slope, because of the car's geometry. But the fact that it's not perfectly vertical doesn't seem to be a significant issue so far.

Performance -- I have a network analyzer (NanoVNA) which I used to measure the antenna's impedance, and I think it looks pretty good. I included photos of the VNA's screen for SWR and Smith Chart plots for both the 144-148MHz. band and the 420-450MHz. band. The little tuning screw seemed to be in a pretty good position as it came from the factory. The worst case SWR for the 2M band was under 2.2:1, and for the 70CM band it was under about 2.5:1. I haven't given it much on-the-air testing, but I have had no trouble hitting repeaters in our valley, 20+ miles away. So I think it will be a successful result. A good alternative to drilling holes, or opening the window with a mag mount.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's junk, didn't last 2 weeks here in the cold Michigan winter!
By J. M. on February 6, 2021
It won't tune at all on the 44Mhz band, completely unusable. It's flat on the 2-meter band, 1:1 SWR. I tuned it all the way in and back out for the 440 band and its lowest is 4:1. I left it on there and ran 2 meters only but the first really cold night it snapped right off driving down the road. I've had these window mounts before, it's EXACTLY the same as the Radio Shack ones I had 20 years ago but those were tougher and would tune 440. I'm glad I didn't pay much for it. I have lots of Tram stuff including an NMO 2 meter antenna on my truck and my Tram 2m 440 base antenna and they are all great, this one is junk! Get the Larson if you need a glass mount, NOT THIS ONE. Oh, I forgot to mention, this thing whistles so loud while driving i couldn't stand it, i put some heat shrink on it over the coil portion to quiet it down.
