Here's what to do if your handbrake doesnt dectect!

Ok, so I purchased this item, in hopes it was Plug N Play, and it is! However, I noticed people are having issues with theirs saying it doesn't detect. I'm not entirely sure, BUT i had to de solder ALL of the black Pin outs and re solder just the wires into the same order. Yellow Wire To GND which connects to the - sign on the Hall sensor, Green Wire To VCC which connects to the middle of the hall sensor and Blue Wire to A2 which connects to the S on the hall sensor. First I moved the black Pin out Plug they soldered on, noticed a weird solder smell after plugging it in and some weird plastic burn and that's when I noticed it started to short. So I disassembled it, De Soldered it, and plugged it in. To my surprise I went into the joystick panel in windows and it showed up and i was very surprised, knowing that it works, I quickly tapped the wires and connected to the hall sensor and worked too. So I soldered the wires straight on to the board and had a WAY better result. So here you have it guys, if you are running into issues, disassemble, remove the solder and re solder the wire directly into the board, you'll have better results trust me. For those who wanted to know, it only took about 1Hr. Should take you less since I've already figured it out. But whoever buys this and is having issue, Look no further. Other than that, this thing rocks!

Update: Nov 2020

Over time, the USB connectivity will have issues, check video of how on lazy fix . Basically what is happening, is over time the usb port ON THE Handbrake side, will randomly stop reading, I pushed on the and the slider works all . All I did was add tension to the cable, causing it possible mate back together. It's holding up very well.

Also despite the issues I did have with it, yes it does deserve 4 stars IMO. Bang for your buck, if you want a good one, go buy a good one, if you want something that just works and don't mind taking a little time to trouble shoot and learn, get this one. Like I said, bang for your buck, almost perfect.

Not a detailed review on the item itself but my way of recommending getting a USB handbrake in the first place.

I'm using this with just one game: Dirt Rally 2.0 on PC. With a Vive VR headset and a G920 wheel + H-pattern shifter. It's set up on my desk and I sit on a $15 IKEA folding chair. Meaning I don't have a high-class "rig" to brag about.

I've been getting pretty into Dirt Rally ever since they added Oculus VR support in June 2016. I used Revive to support my Vive with pretty consistent reliability. I tell everyone it's some of the most exhilarating fun you can have with a video game. With VR not only was it really exciting but my stage times improved INSTANTLY and I became a far better driver. So, yeah, I was one of those "no VR, no buy" comment guys. But hey, we got our wish in the end!

But for me there was still something missing in terms of control. The level of awkwardness that came with using the B-button on the wheel as the handbrake was a real pain. Having to anchor my thumb on a button while really needing to be free to manipulate the wheel was bad - and it just wasn't fun.

I got this USB hand brake (the simpler version with a clamp included). Set-up was uneventful, just plugged it into my Win10 and it detected. I mounted it to my desk to the right of my shifter. In Dirt Rally 2.0 I found and adjusted minimal configuration options and went to test it in the rally school free-roam stage. I was able to discover that it was an analog controller. Lighter pulls applied the rear brakes lightly. I could modulate the hand-braking force. It felt great in my hand.

In Dirt Rally 2.0, in the Greece stages (DLC) my favorite stage is Fourteka Kourva. It's a dry gravel course with at least 6 hairpins if my memory is correct, including one right at the beginning that despite having driven through it perhaps 300+ times since 2016 (lots of restarts helps) I've never really felt good at it in my 4WD Group-B Lancia Delta S4. With VR, my new handbrake and now forcing myself to use the full manual H-shifter and clutch pedal I had now entered basically a level of full control that I had been lacking up until this point.

I entered that first hairpin... and immediately it felt different. I slammed the brakes, put in the clutch, cranked the wheel to the right and pulled the handbrake. I feathered the handbrake out of natural instinct and around swung the rear as I maintained revs with the throttle. The moment the nose was pointed in the right direction I let go of the handbrake and clutch at the same time and off like a rocket shot down the road. It felt completely natural. There was 5 more hairpins to navigate on this under-three-minute stage and every hairpin felt like it was faster than any previous attempts with just the B-button.

I was so glad I bought a handbrake controller. I've only spent around 5 hours or so with it so far, but I've been totally content with it. It was a great investment and I only wish I had gotten it earlier.

So Far, So Good (Windows 10)

So far so good. Came with a table clamp. The handle orientation is adjustable, so you can use the base in a horizontal bolted fashion. There is some play in the handle and thats just from the bushing-pin that holds the handle to the actuator. It is a hall effect, which means the pull amount is progressive and detected on a sliding scale, which is ideal for drifting or rally.

This IS a copy of amstudio (youtube channel) hand brake, which you can make yourself but this one is already done, comes with the table clamp and has Amazon return policy. Overall, you should be happy.

NOTE - DO NOT PULL ON THE USB CABLE. There is an area you can zip tie it to on the body, make sure you do that, so the cable doesn't get disconnected from the Arduino board.

I've had this for about two months now and I think it's a decent value for the money.

I'm very new to Sim driving and Sim racing so please consider my opinion with a grain of salt, I don't have much experience to compare to

Pros:
- analog input although sometimes it feels like it's only on / off. It registers as analog in dirt rally 2 and dirt 4 (in the calibration menus and even in the windows 10 controller, so no problems there. That's what I wanted to get all along.
- dedicated table clamp. Not very good and tends to get a little loose every couple of days

Cons:
- expensive
- I noticed some rattling and in a couple of sessions I had the lever get stuck, and I've heard some squeaking which was a bit annoying but some grease should solve that

Otherwise it gets the job done very well, I've really enjoyed having it.

I was expecting a lot less since it's much cheaper than Thrustmaster handbrake, and there is a youtube review showing how shaky this controller is.

However, you don't need to worry.

Pros
- Works as intended. Axis input handbrake.
- High build quality. Nothing shakes around.
- Solid metal materials, built to last. Bonus point to their choice of sexy blue metal.
- Looks great. Huge improvement over their first design.
- Fast shipping. Mine arrived in a week all the way from Hong Kong.
- Customizable handle length in case you can only mount it high up.

Cons
- Grease is too exposed. I got my face covered with grease testing this beast out for build quality.
- Clamp is bit difficult to put together. I wish they made a hole on top of clamp plate so you can screw the bolt in without torturing your fingers.

Overall, I don't regret buying this at all. It looks thousand times better than Thrustmaster's ugly bastard child of a handbrake and it's half the price.

Just another reluctant shopper.

USB gets automatically detected as an analogue device. Setup on video games doesn't require additional config aside from the in-game mappings; used through a USB hub with a T300, TH8A and headset. Controller seems sturdy. Moreover, the switch is a magnetic sensor and instead of a slider switch. I used the clamp which seems adequate for mounting on a table or wheel stand.
Converting the handbrake would require some skill to convert from vertical to horizontal mounting.
