The title's great for quickly picking up enough Italian to get around, and the companion app is super-helpful for pronunciation.

The only negative thing I can say is that the book is nearly unusable on a Kindle (even one with a 7" screen), it acts like a PDF, and you have to enlarge each page to make it readable then scroll all around to see the whole thing. Buy this as a paper-back, you won't regret it -- it's even small enough to take up very little luggage space.

A lot is packed into this small book! Excellent for traveling. Great for beginners. When the book arrived and I saw the bright pictures and lables, I didn't think I would like it. BUT as I went through the first few pages, it is packed with words, phrases, and at least 10 most useful verbs/present tense conjugations. This is perfect (in my opinion) for someone who just wants to have some useful phases and a little understanding of the Italian language before traveling there. It is not intensive language study, but a fantastic start for those traveling. Really like the learning style with cover flaps for memorizing and review questions at the beginning of each section. There is also a small translation dictionary in the back of the book. The DK app that can be down loaded for FREE coincides with each chapter has pronunciation and time for repeating/recording. For the price, the content, the additional free app, THIS book is a Bargain!!!

This book is much better than any so called travelers books ( Rick Steves You are there too). It’s easy to navigate and hence comprehend.
The phrases in it are designed to converse with the Italians on respectful level w/ o ogly american biases and demands. As for errors- it’s hard for me to judge yet, but I am fluent in other languages and found fewer gaffes in DK language books than in any others.

I wanted to like this book since the picture-based format is unique and the audio is a plus. But the print is small and a strain for me even with reading glasses. And folding the cover as recommended to hide answers while you practice seems it would be awkward since the cover is laminated. But if you have good eyes, this could be a nice addition to your study library.

I first bought the 15 minute French at Half-price books before I traveled to France. It was so helpful to me in using basic french. Of Course I was not fluent, but was able to understand some of the words spoken to me by natives, and I was able to communicate enough to get around. I was so confident that when I planned my trip to Rome, Italy I knew I had to buy this as well.
You won't become fluent, but you will be able to pronounce the words you do learn pretty fluently.

The post on Amazon does not make this sufficiently clear. The language system as it was designed has three books. This textbook, a phrasebook, and a vocabulary book. You are better off getting this product from Barnes and Noble where you will get the full language system. I am surprised that Amazon is legally permitted to sell this separately.

Why haven't DK got around to uograding the Audio? My phone isn't all that new, so they've had plenty of time. When learning a new language audio is essential.
