Review

Rick Goldschmidt the Rankin-Bass expert-of-experts has gone overboard (in a good way) by expanding his already essential 176-page 1997 labor-of-love, The Enchanted World of Rankin-Bass, into a monster 296-page (120 additional pages!) limited edition. This 15th Anniversary Edition is for anyone who worships at the altar of Rudolf, Frosty and Mad Monster Party. It contains 84 new color pages of rare photos and artwork, including original concept sketches and storyboard artwork and beautiful tribute pieces by Bruce Timm, Mike Fontenelli, Patrick Owsley, Mark Christiansen, Matt Pott and others. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Order it now! JERRY BECK Animation historian/CARTOON RESEARCH --CARTOON RESEARCH website

This was a great experience!  I added 15 more years of material to my first book to celebrate it's 15th Anniversary to the day!  Wes Garlatz laid it all out after working on our MAD MONSTER PARTY book and it is time to enjoy the holidays!  Arthur Rankin, Jr. decided this should be BEST QUALITY possible...so here it is!

I am the official RANKIN/BASS PRODUCTIONS historian/biographer and have authored Six books on RANKIN/BASS. In 2018, we released The Making of Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town and The Daydreamer. For Christmas 2016, we released the 20th Anniversary Edition of The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass: A Portfolio, which trumps all previous editions with NEW content. Now 412 pages, 0ver 200 pages of color and over 1,400 images! By far, our BEST Production to date and met with rave reviews in early 2017! In stock at MISERBROS. My 2015 book, is The Arthur Rankin, Jr. Scrapbook: The Birth of Animagic hardcover edition with 24 new pages. My 2nd book has a new glossy cover remembering Producer Arthur Rankin, Jr., THE MAKING OF THE RANKIN/BASS HOLIDAY CLASSIC: RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (MISER BROS PRESS). My third book details the entire making of RANKIN/BASS' MAD MONSTER PARTY (MISER BROS PRESS). I also was the project consultant and am featured in the documentaries on the DVDs and BLU RAYs of MAD MONSTER PARTY (Sept. 8, 2009 DELUXE EDITION) and THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS (Christmas edition 2007) BOTH available on AMAZON. I have recorded three CDs with GIN BLOSSOMS and my first is available at AMAZON "Rick Goldschmidt Sings." I perform with my band THE STARVING ARTISTS in the Chicago area. Unfortunately, the 2018 Blu Ray Christmas releases of the Classic Rankin/Bass TV Specials to blu ray, were not Produced properly and we DO NOT recommend them at all. My 6th book Frosty the Snowman 50th Anniversary scrapbook is now available in hardcover and on Kindle! I also did the commentary with Lee Gambin on the 2021 Blu Ray release of Rankin/Bass' The Daydreamer!

I heard about this book on my local radio station. They were having an interview with the author. I thought it sounded like a great gift for my mother who is a huge Rudolph fan. I ordered the book and when it arrived was so surprised that the author himself had hand addressed the box and had also drawn a few pictures. (It was so cool that I included it with the book!) I also found that he had included a holiday message inside the cover along with his autograph. Needless to say my mother loves the book and I'm sure it will headline her collection!

I applaud Rick Goldschmidt for compiling this book and its subsequent Anniversary Edition and doing the research. However, I would have liked it better had he included more "behind the scenes" information and more about the execution of these series. The photos are mostly black and white and quite difficult to make out. Some are even fuzzy. I suppose he had to work with what he found. After all, these were made before anyone had heard of "Bonus Features"! There was little as far as color photos, and most of those were of comic drawings. All in all, I did like this book.

Love this book. If you are a fan of Rankin Bass, this is the only book to buy. The author is very sweet and even signed the inside pages for me and drew a fantastic character (Bumble) for me. I love it. It's a great coffee table book.

WOW!! This "Enchanted" book is so BEAUTIFUL!!! I received it yesterday and I was just struck how massive and gorgeous it is! Rick Goldschmidt really outdid himself on this book! No wonder it was sold out and hard to find. I am glad the original was sold out. This NEW 15th Anniversary Edition is the gold at the end of the rainbow!

It is well worth the price. I would have paid much more! I had read all Ricks other books on Rankin/ Bass and have loved and enjoyed reading those over and over.

Growing up my parents didn’t let us have a Christmas tree but as a very young kid in the 60s my little brother and I sure looked forward to watching the yearly broadcast of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer.” So how great was it when I received a gift copy of The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass–15th Anniversary Edition.

Besides Rudolph it brought back memories of the “Ballad of Smokey the Bear” and a “Willie Mays and The Say-Hey Kid” TV kid’s special that I had long forgotten. It was thrilling to read about the making of it.

This is a wonderful book, beautifully illustrated and meticulously researched by pop-culture expert and author Rick Goldschmidt. From the very cool Rankin/Bass Productions logo to the amazing inside history of the “Animagic” stop-motion animation technique, this is a book any animator, graphic designer, TV buff and pop culture aficionado will love.

I spent years hoping somebody would write a book about the Rankin/Bass TV specials, and R/B historian Rick Goldschmidt made my dreams come true in 1997 with his "The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass: A Portfolio." Now 15 years later, Rick has exceeded all expectations with this definitive 15th anniversary edition. It quickly earned a treasured place in my library beside his earlier works. This revised edition was truly a labor of love for Rick as he not only honored Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass but also the many talented people who helped bring these shows to TV and movie screens. For example, the book includes a new heartfelt tribute to Rick's friend, the late voice artist Billie Mae Richards (Rudolph), along with sidebars of many others who contributed to the heart and charm of these enduring programs. And the scores of new color images are beautifully rendered on the highest quality paper. If you truly care about the legacy of Rankin/Bass, you will want to add this beautiful book to your collection.
