"How timely is this novel with all the disturbing news coming out of Hollywood!A mixture of adventure, mystery, and romcom with some humorously uncomfortable moments between wardrobe and family when bringing the Industry to Georgia. So like Hollywood, you'll never figure out what is real and what is make-believe until you reach the end." -- Laura's Interests
"As much as I loved the first Maizie Albright mystery, I loved this one even more. The mystery is fun and complex and kept me guessing until the very end and the chemistry between Maizie and her reluctant mentor is absolutely amazing. It's rare that I finish a book and immediately want to read it a second time, but I hated to see this one end. I'll be counting the days until book three comes out." -- Michelle of Michelle's Romantic Tangle
"Another fun outing for Maizie Albright, former child star. Larissa Reinhart always brings humor and grit to her mysteries." -- Terri L. Austin, author of the Rose Strickland Mysteries and the Null for Hire series
"I really enjoy this series. Part romcom, part murder mystery, they are the perfect weekend read. Maizie is everything you wouldn't expect in a Hollywood star - she's funny, self-deprecating, relate-able, and she has a generous heart; all in all, she's a great character. She's the perfect foil to the super-serious straitlaced Wyatt Nash - these two need to be an item, seriously! Maizie may go a little overboard from time to time, but you can't help but root for her and wish her the best. (And hope she gets her man!)" -- Jenna, Girl With Book Lungs
From the Author
I hope you enjoy Maizie Albright's second case! I had a lot of fun fictionalizing her Hollywood-in-Georgia experience, although Hollywood in Georgia is no joke. Georgia's the number one state for making movies now, outranking California and New York. I've got The Walking Dead four miles from my house in one direction and The Avengers filming at Pinewood Studios four miles in the other direction. :)
Maizie Albright, wayward ex-teen tv star, forced to move back home to Black Pine, Georgia by a judge, finds herself in the most unbelievable situations. She has a crazy mom/manager, a good old boy dad, a precocious 6 yr old step-sister, & a smokin’ hot P.I. boss. I love all the many quirky characters. In 16 Millimeters she finds herself babysitting a partying starlet & tripping over dead bodies right & left. Poor Maizie ends up on a crazy roller coaster ride not just trying to find the killer & prevent more murders, but also dealing with the crackling heat snapping between her & boss Wyatt Nash. And while Maizie finds herself in some harrowing predicaments she never gives up. She just channels her old tv characters & plows right on. I can’t wait to see what happens to her next.
Maizie Albright has left stardom and returned to her hometown of Black Pine, GA – not exactly by her choice. She’s seizing the moment and trying her best to become a Private Investigator being employed and trained by Wyatt Nash. The biggest case involves all manner of people from her past – even her mother/manager. With all those Hollywood egos involved, there’s plenty mischief, mayhem & murder for Maizie to search through the clues. Reinhart’s characters are wonderfully entertaining! Maizie is so full of spunk and she is going to get her man ... or woman ... or all of the people involved!
With a touch of romance, humor and a lot of action Larissa has done it again. Maizie came back to Black Pine to escape Hollywood but unfortunately Hollywood followed her. Her boss, Nash's business is struggling so when the opportunity arises to make some big money protecting someone from her past Maizie jumps on the chance. She will do anything and everything to save Nash's business and start learning some investigative skills. But when dead bodies start showing up, Maizie isn't so sure that she's not in over her head. With body doubles, film makers and her mother involved, Maizie turns to Nash for help. He is less than thrilled to be pulled into something involving the TV industry but with Maizie involved he'll do whatever it takes to protect her and help uncover the truth. As their relationship heats up, her mother missing and the bodies piling up, can Maizie solve the mystery and find the killer before the killer strikes again?
Maizie has quickly become a new favorite character and every book is on my to read list as soon as it releases. Larissa's humor, and descriptive writing have made her one of my favorite authors. No matter the character, if it's a book written by her you can bet I'm going to be reading it.
*I was provided with an ARC of this book to read but even if I had to wait, I would give this book 5 stars! Thanks so much Larissa!*
Maizie Albright and Larissa Reinhart have done it again! Action, humor and heart tied me to this delightful mystery from beginning to end! Nash doesn't play a really big role but OH, MY, I think I would read the books just for him. I have caught Maisie's crush. The ex-actress just can't keep from getting drawn into the drama around the business that has followed her to Georgia. Not only is she dying to turn her internship into active investigative time, she is drawn to help those with whom she can relate, not to mention, Nash's business needs the big bucks and she is one of the reasons! From the time she sees what appears to be the dead body of old show mate the neophyte detective refuses to give up on uncovering the muck that is hiding under the covers of the flash of show business but she is also concerned about the person who, contrary to all appearances, she would swear was dead. Nothing is every easy for Maizie anymore but she refuses to give up. Nash is not thrilled for his agency to be drawn so close to the TV industry but he needs the money before his vengeful ex takes over the business. The warmth of Maizie's dad's family and the shadow of her mother's disapproval follow Maizie throughout the novel.
I have pre-order a copy of 16 Millimeters but was thrilled to get to read an ARC of the book. Thanks you Ms. Reinhart! I loved it!!!
(I received an advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it)
“Familiarity breeds contempt. So does questionable morality and murder.”
Won’t anyone stop thinking of Mazie Albright as Julia Pinkerton, the teenaged Star? Well, it might help if Mazie stopped channeling her. In this, the second of Rheinhart’s new series about the PI in training, Mazie and Wyatt Nash take on a film crew setting up in Black Pines that hire them to “babysit” a former co-star of Mazie’s from her TV show days. And even she’s impressed because the former sidekick has a shot at a real career if she can stay “ clean and sober” for the run of the film schedule.
A convoluted soap opera of “ he said, she said” leads to a crazy whodunnit and why as Mazie just keeps ahead of her probation officer and the police in a story that will keep you guessing who the mastermind actually is and why the whole dang thing got so convoluted in the first place.
Larissa Rheinhart has returned to Black Pines in full on mystery form as her characters try to keep on track figuring out who, what, when, where and exactly how you hide a gun under spandex. The story will keep you riveted , the writing will keep you laughing and the energy between the characters will keep you coming back for more. Highly entertaining and recommended.
I honestly think each book by Mrs. Reinhart can't get any better but they do! I adore Maizie. She is so complex but lovable!
In the second book in the Maizie Albright series, Maizie gets involved protecting a former "friend" from her film days. She discovers dead bodies, is put in peril, and gets more involved with Nash (her sexy boss). Her girls, Rhonda and Tiffany add fun and humor to Maizie's life as well. The plot was intriguing. I honestly wasn't sure who or why until the end!
I was sad the book ended. I look forward to the next in the series (actually the Cherry Tucker series as well. I LOVE this author).
